Got around to making an academic twitter account!
I am a PhD student in the microbiology graduate group at UC Davis.
Wanted to pin my 1st publication - the product of undergrad research at UMBC on sexual selection in darters published earlier this year 🤓🐠
Question for #phage twitter - what #prophage identifying tools are currently the best/standard for #metagenomics? I'm not seeing a clear answer when sifting through the literature. Any advice? cc: @phylogenomics
@shrutip129@lonna_wright@pollenmicrobes@phylogenomics Hah so this was one of my rotation projects. unfortunately I didn’t specify prophages but I can comment that of VirSorter vs DeepVirFinder vs VIBRANT, VIBRANT was best at identifying viruses (true positives) and VirSorter was best at excluding plasmid sequences (true negatives)
Congratulations to former @UMBC#PhageHunters@CMattson_ and Matt Koert of @UMBCBiology on their co-authorship: Evidence for shared ancestry between Actinobacteria and Firmicutes bacteriophages. recommended by @PCIgenomics. #SEAPHAGES See https://t.co/YldeJGgogH
