@Olly_0224@DrewBricks D Girl is great. I love Christopher episodes.
Perhaps not as good as “The Legend of Tennessee Motisamti” or “Walk Like a Man,” but pretty funny with a great ending.
How can folks prefer “mergers & acquisitions” or “Keisha?”
Top 5: Jaws, Raiders, ET, Close Encounters, Schindler's List (dislodging any of these landmarks seems silly & disingenuous)
Bottom 5: Lost World, Hook, Crystal Skull, Tin Tin, BFG?
@BonesAndEllie Maybe there’s a contrarian impulse out there, but I’m surprised Schindler’s List is missing from from so many top fives. I mean, come on people!
1. Schindler's List
2. E.T.
3. Raiders of the Lost Ark
4. Jaws
5. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
6. Empire of the Sun
7. War of the Worlds
8. A.I.
9. Saving Private Ryan
10. Temple of Doom
All we did was send our military to the other side of the world, bombed Iran's bridges and elementary schools, then imposed a military blockade to crush their economy and population.
Then, out of nowhere, these deranged monsters shoot one of our peaceful liberatory helicopters.
These people only understand force! They're like from the 8th century.
@Darren_Mooney He's doing the ACTUAL GUY. And a ruthless takedown at that.
Of course, both performances (from what we've seen) seem to hinge on Zuck's cringe & destructive insecurity.
@Srirachachau Kubrick lacked his colleague's gift with child actors. Without a great performance in the lead, profoundly different film.
Didn't Kubrick imagine using a real robot at one point?
@alexL_E_I Is it not also bleak AND hopeful that Jim mistakes the atom bomb as Mrs. Victor's soul rising to heaven? He is correct that souls are rising, just a lot more than he realizes. But we recognize that, as Mrs. Victor's life had value, what Jim actually witnesses is so much worse.
@alexL_E_I Something can be bleak and hopeful at the same time, no? Schindler's choice to stop exploiting his workers for profit and spend all his money on their wellbeing (while his fellow industrialists choose not to) is portrayed as an inexplicable miracle.
That is bleak AND hopeful.
