Introducing Candyroot Lodge—a new public golf destination in the South Carolina Sandhills (approximately an hour from both Charlotte and Columbia) with plans for four championship courses, a par-3 course lit for night play, wellness amenities, and on-site lodging.
The first course—an 18-hole layout by Mike Koprowski, co-designer of @BroomsedgeGolf in Rembert, S.C., with Kyle Franz—will be ready for preview play in November and make its grand opening in spring 2027. The design will be “defined by extreme minimalism” taking advantage of sandy ridges and natural slopes with “intentionally small” greens. According to the club, “This is a thinker’s course—one that rewards imagination, trajectory control, and feel.”

South Carolina’s @BroomsedgeGolf has announced plans for expansion that include increased public access as well as the construction of new accommodations and a dining venue overlooking the course.
Though private at its core, Broomsedge—which previously accommodated some non-member play—will embrace a “welcoming private club” model similar to the Lido at Sand Valley, where the public has limited access to designated tee times each week. Developer Baker Thompson, who previously assisted Michael Keiser Jr. in bringing the Lido vision to life in Wisconsin and served as the first Captain of the Lido, is taking on the role of Managing Partner and CEO of Broomsedge and will oversee the construction of a small collection of four-bedroom cottages and the food and beverage facility, anticipated to open in 2027. Ultimately, Broomsedge envisions also adding a second golf course that will complement the lauded Mike Koprowski/Kyle Franz design which opened in October 2024, earning widespread recognition for its unique visual and strategic qualities spread over sandy Carolina Sandhills terrain.
“It was our intention from the start at the Lido to bring a new accessibility to top-tier American golf,” says Keiser Jr., who will be a senior advisor to the project. “Americans have always benefitted overseas from the welcoming nature of clubs in the British Isles. There’s no reason that won’t work here. We were thrilled when Broomsedge opened with enthusiastic acceptance of non-member play. That’s a large part of what makes Baker the perfect person to take their club and facilities to the next level.”
