GWP marked a major sustainability milestone with a ribbon cutting for the new rooftop solar at Glendale Central Library.
The newly installed 400kW solar array is expected to generate approximately 650,000 kWh of clean energy per year directly from the sun. This is roughly equivalent to 58% of the Library’s annual energy needs or powering approximately 90 homes annually, contributing to the City’s clean energy goals, and helping reduce Glendale’s overall greenhouse gas emissions.

On Monday, April 6, 2026, we are celebrating a major milestone in sustainability with the new rooftop solar installation at the Glendale Central Library.
The newly installed 400kW solar array is expected to generate approximately 650,000 kWh of clean energy per year. This is roughly equivalent to 58% of the Library’s annual energy needs or powering approximately 90 homes annually.
In addition to the solar installation, the project includes a complete renovation of the Children’s Space, the creation of a dedicated Teen Space and Sound Space, accessibility improvements on the second floor, and replacement of the aging roof.
These upgrades ensure the library remains a modern, welcoming space while advancing Glendale’s sustainability goals.
This ribbon cutting event is not open to the public, but we’ll be streaming it live on GWP’s Instagram and Facebook platforms so you can join us virtually and be part of this exciting moment for our community.
