Campaigning for increased awareness, detection, legislation and regulation of gas industry. Keeping Fred Jackson's memory alive. On the Board of CO-Gas Safety
As CO Awareness Week ends, I’m thinking of my dad — and how stronger laws on CO alarms and safety standards could protect so many families. Awareness matters, but so does legal change.
Let’s keep talking about this and keep pushing for safer laws. https://t.co/98fBYPib8k
Humbled by how widely my dad’s story has been shared for #COAwarenessWeek2025, including in this article. Losing him to carbon monoxide was devastatingly preventable. CO is a deadly, invisible gas.
Please check your CO alarm & share.

Reflecting on the importance of safety at home, APPCOG Chair Paul Davies MP encourages everyone to use British Standard-compliant carbon monoxide alarms and service appliances regularly. #CarbonMonoxideAwarenessWeek#SafeHomes
If you suspect CO or your alarm sounds:

I spoke live on @BBCRadioWales for #COAwarenessWeek2025, sharing my dad’s story. He was only 52. CO is a deadly, invisible gas. Symptoms like headaches, dizziness & nausea are often missed.
Check your CO alarm & share.

CO can affect holiday lets, hotels, caravans and boats. Always take a portable CO alarm when you travel — it costs around £15 and could save your life.
#TravelSafety#COAwarenessWeek2025
Annual servicing by a Gas Safe registered engineer helps keep appliances safe. Most CO leaks come from faulty or poorly maintained heating, cooking or hot water systems.
#WalesAndWestUtilities#GasSafety
Many CO incidents are missed because testing isn’t routine. Even when engineers or emergency services attend callouts, symptoms or alarms, CO is not always checked.
Testing takes minutes but could save lives.
#MandatoryTesting#COGasSafety
Low-level CO exposure is more common than people realise. Research shows that even low levels — below what alarms detect — can cause long-term illness and brain damage, especially in older adults.

Key symptoms of CO exposure:
• headache
• dizziness
• nausea
• tiredness
• confusion
• stomach pain
Symptoms often improve when you leave the building — a major warning sign.

Some dangers shout, others whisper. #CarbonMonoxide is silent and deadly. A flue through your home could expose you to it. Install and test your alarm every month to stay protected. #COSafety#CarbonMonoxideAwarenessWeek
