It's interesting to think of memes as forming a "collective being." I always just thought of them as funny images that sometimes appear on my Twitter page, but in reality they actually bring people together #COMM316
It never occurred to me that "black death and black joy are pinned to each other by the white gaze." It's really disturbing how much the white gaze shapes and distorts other gazes that it should have no power over #COMM316
I think social media has played a huge part in getting better rep. When tv and movie ppl see how many people want better/more LGBT+ rep, it makes a difference because they know there is an audience that will support their work--and critique it when it is wrong #COMM316
It's a good idea to have people in the industry advocating for LGTB+ rights, but it's not helpful if GLAAD tries to remove shows without telling the producers why. If they don't say why they are against the representation in a show, the media won't learn what IS good rep #COMM316
@JoeyValentin985 I agree, but I do think Facebook comments/videos is a good place to start trying to get that representation because it is more open to the public than the media is
@jd0n0v4n@haserb32 ^^same. And if they are going to use an algorithm, they should be more concerned with testing its validity than they have been in the past
I agree that Twitter makes a huge impact on what becomes newsworthy. I mostly follow people in the Publishing industry on Twitter (who mostly talk about books), but still I heard about the Ferguson events happening in real time because of what they were retweeting. #COMM316
The score test seems really unreliable because when asked a question, how can the testers know if the accused are lying or not? It doesn't seem like there is a good way to make sure the answers are accurate. #COMM316
@17comm316 That's a really good question, and probably deserves a whole essay/book response.I think it's subjective and objective depending on the topic
@descorci1 I also think they feel alienated because they are speaking to an audience they've never met in real life,so it's hard to validate their work
