Conservative Party Human Rights Commission - Raising international human rights concerns, to inform UK policy. Views independent of Conservative Party & UK Govt
As the co-founder and Deputy Chair of @CPHumanRights, I stand in total solidarity with @MPIainDS@DavidAltonHL@HelenaKennedyKC@NeilDotObrien@TomTugendhat@Nus_Ghani and our Chairman @timloughton and entirely agree with every word of this statement below 👇
I would also like to know whether the Conservative Party Human Rights Commission is still sanctioned and if so, why?
And the same question for @TribunalUyghur@EssexCourtLaw@j_smithfinley and Sir Geoffrey Nice KC.
I strongly support the call in this statement for @Keir_Starmer to meet us all and explain what happened, why, and what our current status is - and, crucially, assure us that @GOVUK has not and will not lifted any sanctions in return.
Let's be clear:
🇬🇧 sanctions on 🇨🇳 - though only a handful and woefully inadequate - were in response to #UyghurGenocide
🇨🇳 sanctions on 🇬🇧 Parliamentarians, academics, lawyers and organisations were in response to us calling out a #genocide and speaking up for #HumanRights
So @FCDOGovUK@10DowningStreet must not lift our sanctions on #China #CCP officials until the genocide stops and human rights improve.
Indeed, if #JimmyLai is not released soon, we should place new sanctions on China and #HongKong officials.

I'm heading to Washington, DC next week, to speak at the @IRFSummit and to speak at @Jifengbooks and to advocate for #HumanRights in #China#Myanmar#NorthKorea and beyond on behalf of @FortifyRights
If you're in DC on Wednesday 4 February, come join me at JF Books for a discussion about China, Asia, and the axis of authoritarianism versus democracy
🧵A big thank you to our Commissioner Baroness @HodgsonFiona for tabling this question about @FCDOGovUK's response to our report on #Myanmar, "Unspeakable Tragedy", published earlier this year - and other questions on Myanmar as well/

The UK's shameful surrender to China is a national disgrace. The dropped spy case under Labour exposes our government's cowardice: refusing to label Beijing a threat despite cyber attacks, infiltration, and genocide in Xinjiang. We've prioritised economic greed over security, allowing spies, Confucius Institutes, and a massive embassy that jeopardizes our sovereignty. It's time to expel operatives, ban forced-labor goods, sanction abusers, and stand firm—or become China's client state. @benedictrogers brilliantly explained the situation in his must-watch interview with @CamillaTominey on @GBNEWS this morning, and as I argue in my piece: Labour is slowly morphing becoming China's communist protege, it is no wonder they continue to wilfully ignore the threat China poses.
‘It is essentially bribery that will compromise British security further.’
Hong Kong Watch Co-Founder Benedict Rogers believes the removal of the UK’s intelligence services from the discussions over the proposed China super-embassy in London is ‘bizarre’.
‘Jonathan Powell should be sacked.’
Hong Kong Watch Co-Founder Benedict Rogers calls for a debate in parliament, saying there is something ‘deeply wrong’ about the collapse of the China spy case.

🧵10 years ago, I started to call out #China's #CCP regime - for its grave human rights violations
At the time, I was almost a lone voice in🇬🇧
Few people - especially in Westminster - wanted to know
