These four Black men are the only Black people elected to serve in Congress from Louisiana since the 1870s.
Louisiana has elected more than 170 white men to Congress during that same period. Yet today, a corrupt Supreme Court, a puppet governor, and a weak-backed legislature have decided to strip elected power from Black people.
That means other people decide how our tax dollars are invested in our communities.
I spoke with @repcleofields_, @reptroycarter, former Rep. @cedric_richmond, and former Rep. William Jefferson about why they went to the Louisiana State Capitol to testify against the congressional maps being pushed through.
For years, I’ve been saying what happens in Louisiana will impact America. Here we are.
This week, the Louisiana House of Representatives plans to pass maps that dilute Black voting power.
Our response cannot be silence. Our response has to be showing up in numbers this November and beginning the work of taking power back.
GOP Senator Thom Tillis slams Trump’s $1.8B slush fund:
“I think it’s stupid on stilts… Taxpayer dollars will compensate someone who assaulted a police officer, got convicted…and now we’re going to pay him for that? This is absurd!”
The NAACP's campaign calls out Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and South Carolina as states to boycott, arguing that the athletic programs of those states' flagship universities are especially reliant on Black athletic talent and should protect Black political interests.

Ever heard of the name Clara Belle Drisdale Williams?
Clara Belle Drisdale [1885-1993], the first African-American graduate of New Mexico State University. Many of her professors would not allow her inside the classroom, she had to take notes from the hallway; she was also not allowed to walk with her class to get her diploma.
She married Jasper Williams in 1917; their three sons became physicians. She became a great teacher of Black students by day, and by night she taught their parents, former slaves, home economics.
In 1961, New Mexico State University named a street on its campus after Williams; in 2005 the building of the English department was renamed Clara Belle Williams Hall.
In 1980, Williams was awarded an honorary doctorate of laws degree by NMSU, which also apologized for the treatment she was subjected to as a student.
She died at 108 years old.
NAACP President Derrick Johnson: The NAACP is calling on athletes coming out of high school not to attend any state-funded schools of states that have moved to minimize our right to vote. The NAACP will fight in solidarity with the CBC to ensure that we have representation, and if we don't, we will withhold the talent that play on the football field on the basketball court in this moment.

Targeting of #BlackAmericans:
A significant portion of the show is dedicated to what #RachelMaddow frames as a concerted attack on #civilrights, including the firing of high-profile Black officials, the rescinding of anti-segregation clauses in federal contracts, and the alleged abandonment of Fair Housing Act enforcement.
#VotingRights:
The episode examines the fallout from the #SupremeCourt effectively gutting the Voting Rights Act, leading to aggressive redistricting efforts by state #Republicans in the South
Congrats to Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson on winning the Pulitzer for covering the Trump regime, especially Elon Musk’s DOGE.
In January, Natanson’s home was raided in an outrageous move by Kash Patel’s FBI, and agents seized her phone, two computers, and even a Garmin watch.

The ceasefire announced in Lebanon, however, offers cause for hope; it represents a glimmer of relief for the Lebanese people and for the Levant. I encourage those who are working toward a diplomatic solution to continue peace talks, so that the cessation of hostilities throughout the Middle East may become permanent.
I am deeply saddened by the recent escalation of attacks against Ukraine, which continue to afflict civilians. I express my solidarity with those who are suffering and assure all the Ukrainian people of my prayers. I renew my appeal for weapons to fall silent and for the path of dialogue to be pursued.
