Today, the Diaspora Technical Working Group (TWG) today met PS @roselinenjogu to share their views and perspectives on proposed electoral legislative reforms.
The reforms seek to promote the participation of the Kenyan Diaspora in the country democratic processes.
Recently, the TWG held consultative meetings with stakeholders across the political, legislative, state and non-state entities to strengthen the connection between the Diaspora and Kenyaโs democratic framework.
During the discourses, PS Njogu reaffirmed the State Departmentโs dedication, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, to ensuring that the Kenyan Diaspora is fully integrated into national development and democratic participation.
She emphasized the importance of mainstreaming the Diaspora into Kenyaโs governance processes to secure their rightful place in shaping the countryโs future.
This afternoon, I hosted a delegation of over 20 members of the Diaspora Technical Working Group (DTWG) in my office. They sought Parliamentโs support in advancing their proposed legislative and policy reforms aimed at enhancing diaspora electoral participation.
The DTWG comprises Kenyan citizens and professionals residing across various regions of the world, including Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America, South America, and the Middle East.
In their push to strengthen the participation of Kenyans in the diaspora in politics, governance, and democratic processes, the group is advocating for amendments to sections of the Elections Act to facilitate greater electoral inclusion.
I met the leaders of various diaspora organizations visiting the country. They have sought my support on diaspora matters and the launch of the 2024 Diaspora Policy. The proposal to include diaspora representation in Parliament is a noble initiative that I support
