DHS is thrilled to welcome Julie Q. Smith as the director of the Office of School Safety. She has had a long career in law enforcement and as a school resources officer, and we know she will work to provide Hoosier students with a safe environment to learn and grow.
Congratulations Julie!!! Director Smith has been an absolute champion for school safety and is known nationally for her efforts. She is a caring, collaborative, and experienced leader...school safety in Indiana is now at even a higher level! @IDHS
In my State of the State Address, I said I would be prioritizing safety of all Hoosiers, especially kids.
Today, I announced Julie Q. Smith as the first ever director of the newly formed Office of School Safety.
As a national leader in school safety, Julie is uniquely qualified for this role and I have complete faith in her leadership of this important office.
Schools are heading back into session all across the Hoosier state!

Love @bam_weather ...single site radar clearly showing the outflow boundary cooling us off here in Indy! @bam_weather is such an indispensable & valuable service!
Thank you @INSROA for the opportunity to present to almost 500 SROs and school administrators at the INSROA State Conference! What an amazing group of passionate, dedicated people that advocate for safe schools for all of our students!
An analysis of the set up this afternoon.
As the low pressure strengthens in Illinois this afternoon and the cold front moves into an increasingly unstable environment, storms will fire off with support from an intensifying low-level jet stream.
This combination will lead to a defined line of intense thunderstorms across Indiana, N. IL, S. MI and N. KY.
Highest tornado threat will likely come closer to the low along and north of I-70 in Indiana where intense wind gusts of 70 - 80 MPH will also be possible.
@charlesharriso5 Congratulations Rev! Her maturity & success are a direct reflection of the great parenting they got from you & your wife. May God bless her...can't wait to see what she can accomplish!
Had the distinct pleasure meeting @jeremyWgulley in 2024 as Jay County Schools hosted a @SecretService seminar on school safety & @FBI 's NTAC. Very impressed with his passion for school safety. This @PASSK12 article is extremely informative. https://t.co/7QbcRaEddt

As a former Bell Jet Ranger pilot, I know that there are several pre-flight checkpoints the pilot MUST check thorpughly, such as the rotor, the mast, cotter pins...not to mention the connection to the transmission, etc. Anxious to see the @NTSB report.
The main rotor detached mid-air and kept spinning as it fell. That’s not a crash, that’s a mechanical meltdown. Someone needs to explain how a $7M machine unzips itself in the sky. #HudsonRiver#HelicopterCrash#WTF
Looking forward to presenting at this year's #ILSROA Illinois School Resource Officers Association School Safety Conference in June! This is a GREAT organization and the speakers for this conference are incredible!
This will be a GREAT week for schools to review their severe weather emergency plans. Whether you use a weather app or WX radio, they need to be checked operationally, as well. #BeWeatherSmart#WeatherAware
This preparedness week is a great time to review your personal safety plan and restock your disaster supply kit! To create a safety plan, visit https://t.co/kxDOCwwGdo #INwx#SeverePrep
We need to start monitoring for the potential of *dangerous* cold in the second week of January.
Exact placement TBD but both the American and European weather models are indicating temperatures 30F+ BELOW NORMAL (map is temps vs normal) for parts of the Central and Eastern US.
