@LMAOatUBtchs@lippyent@CynthiaAli95222 Phhttt! Bloody youngster. No ambition.
As my Dad said, "I want to be shot by a jealous husband when I'm 99." (Of course, my Mum replied, "Won't be the husband that shoots you.")
@LibertyCappy Of course, MEN went to work for 50 hrs a week, for a boss who thought them expendable, in a workplace that if it didn't make them miserable, slowly killed them.
So maybe you have a point. Women lived even longer than men did.
@LibertyCappy ๐ Yeah...got to do "hobbies". Cook, clean, washing, repair clothes, raise a tribe of children, put up with abusive husbands if they were the unlucky ones. Not allowed to have an education or an opinion. Only rich women with servants (poor women usually) had "hobbies".
@dcmoore174@Yang_WenIi@Rothmus 3. Example might be my own colonisation history: The old narrative...colonises good & nothing really bad happened. The "black armband vrsn"...genocide, theft etc. And the truth: One lot have to recognise bad shit happened to the others and they still suffer from it.
@dcmoore174@Yang_WenIi@Rothmus (2). That can be disappointing when it upsets something I read as a child that turned out to be wrong.
I get touchy with more modern history where for some "~ism" a retelling occurs that can contradict not only the normal narrative but also ignores other sources of the time.
@dcmoore174@Yang_WenIi@Rothmus Ah I get you. I agree. Dealing with the past, especially the deep past, IS an educated theory. Serious H. should and do present it has "probable". People want certainty. I like history presented with those "maybe this...maybe that...probably something else." (1)
@Rhodri2112@BradRTorgersen Nought wrong with a contender for "The Most Gratuitous Use of the Word 'F*ck' in a Serious Screenplay" award (Douglas Adams). When it's well delivered it has its place..to challenge. I can see the juxtaposition working. A man whose idea of good is perverse.
@Brookltnwilliw This court was built into an existing tennis court wasn't it. Basically a hoop on a pole wasn't it. And no rose gardens were torn up was there? And the court can use the courts any time unlike a ballroom which will be only for people who can afford the price.
@Rhodri2112@BradRTorgersen You might have a few points there. Not like there haven't been actors who have the depth to step out of their "traditional" role and bring their qualities into a dark form. If he could do it and do it well, why not. I'll take your knowledge of Carr on merit.
