@elonmusk@CatherinScience The gravity on Mars is only 38% of that on Earth. It's too low for humans to live there long term. Long term low gravity is dangerous. For comparison, the gravity on the Moon is 17% of that of Earth. What am I missing here?
@DanEBengtson@aeonmag @bbcideas Daniel where do you think the first life on Earth came from. Like the microbes that were on Earth 3+ billion years ago. Did they also come from panspermia? If so why couldn't they evolve into the species seen during the Cambrian Explosion?
@unusual_whales This seems surprisingly low. Like when you read that the average house price in a certain city is $600,000 and then you look at houses and they all start 1.2 million. I suspect for many it's closer to 60% or higher.

@DanEBengtson I believe in panspermia but think that multicellular animals emerged during the Cambrian explosion (from microbes) because finally the conditions were right. There was enough oxygen in the water, enough iron removed. Do you believe the original microbes on Earth came from space?
@ruckley_e@lexfridman Well the temperature in space is well below zero so anything traveling there would be frozen unless it was packed in some alien technology that kept it warm I guess...
@elonmusk@Rainmaker1973 The gravity on Mars is only 38% of that on Earth. I don't think mammals can live long term in that low gravity. Venus is a better choice. Closer and same gravity as Earth. Need to get it spinning faster but at least the gravity is right :)
@lexfridman 2/2 - haphazardly landing on everything including young, warm wet planets, colonizing them with life. Bringing with them transcription/translation and metabolic pathways. It is likely that Earth was colonized in this way as far back as 4.4 billion years ago. Mars, as well.
@lexfridman 1/2 -If panspermia is true then life in the universe is probably rampant. All you need is a meteor to hit a fertile planet and eject water and soil loaded with microbes into the vast icy expanse of space. There is can drift around like dandelion seeds blowing across a field...
@NatureEcoEvo Is it possible that eukaryotic cells emerged independently dozens of times and therefore do not have a last common ancestor? The program this data was entered into was directed to make a map/tree assuming one common ancestor so it did it. But this does not make it true.
@SPACEdotcom The question isn't if they are sending messages. They are. The question is have we developed advanced enough tech to hear them. Somewhat like being in a Starbucks with wifi and having no phone. The signals are all around us we just need to find a way to log in.
@AdvLivingSys@elonmusk@john@fullsendpodcast@joerogan Yes, the algae blooms and releases a huge burst of oxygen leaving behind anoxic oceans full of rotting algae. The purple bacteria is able to live in the rotting mess and give off hydrogen sulfide. Hard to breath for sure! I call the green part (algae blooming) a Pea Soup Earth.
