@CoachNickerson@ryanfazio@scott_wheeler12 I just had my office pull the numbers last time Scott asked me. Not sure if it’s in a report that’s out yet but we can check.
No one should be in debt because they got sick, and I know what it's like because I grew up in a family that had to pay off medical bills.
But thanks to a program @GovNedLamont started in 2024, CT is leading the nation in cancelling medical debt.
In two years, the program has slashed $500 million of debt for 252,000 people.
That's really incredible and life-changing for people, and I'm proud to live in a state that's doing this.
A new round is just starting, so if you get a letter from Undue Medical Debt with the state seal on in the next few weeks, it's legit - don't throw it out!
The year before I became Comptroller, our spending on weight loss drugs rose by 50%.
I put a new policy in place that has cut the cost trend, improved health outcomes for those taking the drugs, and saved taxpayers $29 million.
When I’m around the state talking to business owners, the first things to come up are healthcare and energy costs.
But it’s also important to hear about the other issues—permitting, hiring, and more—impacting individual businesses.
I’m working every day on solutions to the obstacles Connecticut businesses face and appreciate the Madison Chamber for a great conversation.
Asking for help is hard enough.
Fighting your insurance company shouldn't be part of the process.
I'll always be fighting for equal coverage for mental health care.
New report coming later this AM.
At the beginning of my term, I was faced with a tough dilemma: allow unsustainable GLP-1 cost growth to continue or cut coverage entirely.
In Connecticut, I’m proud to say we took a third route by partnering with @FlyteHealth to offer clinically-appropriate weight management care. And we’ve seen results.
People are healthier and more invested in the care they’re receiving. We’re already seeing cost savings, I’m hearing all the time how validating this program is for participants, and the State of Connecticut is looking forward to the future of this partnership.
Private equity is seeping into every aspect of our lives and ruining them.
Take youth sports: they’re jacking up prices, demanding parents use companies they’re partnered with (and profit from) for travel and apparel, and driving out the camaraderie that youth sports is all about.
Proud to support @ChrisMurphyCT and his fellow federal legislators in efforts to get private equity out of youth sports.
I want my kids to grow up in a state where every single person has access to the mental health care they need.
Where no one is discriminated against because they have a disease of the brain and not a disease of the body.
Where it’s ok to ask for help, and where help is there.
We’re getting there, and I’ll never stop fighting until we do.
The timeline continues...
Looking forward to joining @GovNedLamont and advocates this morning to celebrate May as Mental Health Awareness Month.
Equal access to mental health care is something I'll never stop fighting for.
As the grandson of a firefighter and the person who oversees the largest health and retirement plans for firefighters in the state, I’ve been proud to work to ensure that they have what they need to continue keeping Connecticut safe.
The new supports and data from these legislative initiatives will empower us to plan for the future of firefighting in Connecticut.
CT was just ranked #1 in the nation for patient safety by Leapfrog. That’s a really big deal, and it wouldn’t have happened without the incredible work nurses do each and every day in our state.
To the nurses I visited today at Rockville Memorial Hospital - and to every nurse in Connecticut - thank you, and Happy National Nurses Day!
What is the Citizens’ Assembly on property tax reform?
It’s a new take on the oldest American ideal: that ordinary citizens, when faced with a shared problem, can come together, find common ground and point their elected leaders in the right direction.
And if you got a letter from me in the mail recently, I hope you’ll consider being a part of this exciting project.
