Trump promised the War in Iran would end in unconditional surrender. It did - from us.
Asymmetric warfare has changed the math. Ukraine is proving it against Russia. Iran just proved it against the United States. You don't need nuclear weapons or a massive military to be a strategic power anymore. You need drones, geography and the willingness to make the cost high enough.
This defeat proves that military power alone has real limits — especially when used recklessly and in isolation from allies.
The United States has to reckon with what that means - and fast. If a small country with cheap drones can back down the United States, what does that mean for every U.S. ally who counts on our word?
Americans who cherish Western democracy remain grateful @GiorgiaMeloni has been such a fierce supporter of Ukraine in its ongoing fight against Russian invaders.
Yesterday, for the first time in a long time, I felt something that has become unfamiliar: pride. Watching the living presidents gathered together reminded me that our story is bigger than any single administration, election, or demagogue.

More than 40 years ago, I arrived in Chicago in search of an idea. I was a young man looking for purpose, who believed deeply in America, was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement, and wanted to be a part of something larger. The America I believed in was one where everyone has opportunity, everyone is seen, everyone belongs—because that was an America that had a place for me, too.
Ukraine has spent 4 years defending against Russian invasion and terror attacks and refuses to give an inch. Trump conceded everything to Iran and made the US less safe because of slightly higher gas prices hurting his image and GOP in midterms.
Ukrainian drone strikes on the Moscow refinery didn't happen by accident. That billowing black smoke is the result of years of planning, plus European money. I wrote about Ukraine's long-range drone project last September:

So many outrages we can’t keep up. Will anything, at long last, be too much for the Trumpers? A $400m plane from a foreign govt that Trump gets to keep when he leaves office? Hundreds of millions of TAXPAYER $$ spent upgrading the plane that Trump gets to take with him? That should offend the sensibilities of every American. But Trump has dumbed down our standards so much that there’s only muted protest.
So the ballroom is a fiasco, the reflecting pool is a fiasco, the Iran war is a fiasco—the Trump administration is a fiasco.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
And once again, I am compelled to formally apologize to the rest of the world. As an American, I am again terribly sorry that my country - a great, good, decent country - put this pathologically-lying, idiotic, sociopathic madman in power. I’m sorry. Most of America is sorry.
Trump's defeat in Iran is a stunning display of incompetence -- even more flagrant than George W. Bush's mishandling of Hurricane Katrina two decades ago.

None of this makes any sense, except as desperate rationalizations from a man who cannot face facts and admit defeat. The president of the United States seems to be losing his grip on reality itself.
