We are deeply disappointed that the interim child poverty targets have been missed. Too many families are still struggling to make ends meet. We simply need Holyrood & Westminster to do more for children (1/4)
Today's child poverty stats show that positive policy choices, including the Scottish Child Payment are making a difference, but not nearly enough is being done to give all children a decent start in life.

🔴 Taking the public with us: why we need to tell a new story about child poverty
🔴 A Better for Babies Guarantee
"Decision makers must take urgent and bold action to reduce poverty rates for Scotland’s tiniest citizens, so they can enjoy the healthy, happy and thriving childhoods they deserve. There must be no limits to childhood, or to what a child can achieve."
Every parent wants to give their baby the best start in life possible. But, heartbreakingly, over one in three families with a baby under one are living in poverty.
📣 We’re calling for the next Scottish Government to do #BetterforBabies
'Children living in poverty simply cannot wait'

Powerful piece by @_RebeccaMcCurdy as part of @heraldscotland series on child poverty. Couldn’t agree more that
“This should be an issue that is resigned to the history books where future generations find it hard to believe it existed in the first place.”
Direct, powerful and sincere writing from the very talented @_RebeccaMcCurdy as we kick off our three-day series into child poverty.
"I have very distinct memories of lying in bed almost crippled with worry over how much more my mum could handle."

Our Head of Scotland @CTelfc met with @NeilMackay for his big read in today’s @heraldscotland about ending child poverty, the role of public attitudes, the need for a baby guarantee and harnessing the power of children & families

Good to check in (2/3 April) with @SaveChildrenSCO team on @scotgov target to get child poverty below 10% - some progress but not enough to meet the target by 2030 - and to talk to our parents advisory panel on how to push for greater ambition
New statistics show that child poverty rates in Scotland have fallen.
Our actions, including delivering the Scottish Child Payment and expanding free school meals, will benefit the poorest families by an estimated £2,600 in 2025-26.

"People want a compassionate country beyond the injustice of child poverty... it’s not too late. There are concrete, practical things that @scotgov can do now to meet our legal child poverty targets in 2031."

Today’s child poverty stats for Scotland show that investing in social security makes a real difference but needs to be scaled up if we’re to eradicate child poverty and meet the 2030 targets.
We acknowledge the slight reduction in child poverty however, figures remain significantly above the interim target. @ScotGov must do more to prioritise ending child poverty to meet targets. Too many children in Scotland are still growing up in poverty. 👇 https://t.co/zafJUQCCY3
Save the Children UK on the Labour Government:
"If ministers do not take decisive action soon, this will be the first Labour Government ever to preside over a significant rise in child poverty."
We also need to do more to create flexible jobs for parents, increase the supply of affordable childcare and roll out community based family services that support children to get a decent start & set them up for a better future (4/4)

Social security, esp the SCP, is supporting families. There is no running away from the fact this essential public service is needed & should go further. It’s the backbone to a comprehensive plan to end child poverty (3/4)
