Hockey Parents:
There's one thing I feel is lacking when it comes to a value that needs to be continually reinforced with our kids coming up through youth hockey today.
Pride in the front of the jersey.
Unfortunately, the way that our hockey culture is right now, there’s a lot of:
What have you done for me lately? And how can you get my kid to the next level?
At the end of the day, hockey only takes us so far. And one of the most important life skills that we have to preach more is learning how to be part of a team.
And if we (parents, coaches, adults) can teach our kids to collectively have pride in the organization they are a part of…to really work for something that is bigger than just themselves, we are setting them up for success for life after hockey.
There’s so much focus on the journey of “making it.” And sure, we have to instill the skill and qualities that will help our kids achieve their dreams in this game.
But the constant focus on the “ME” and not the “WE” is doing our kids such a disservice for the life skills they’ll need to conquer the real world.
The “WE” is something we need to see a lot more of in our youth hockey culture.
2024 MidAm District Champions‼️ Both CGA and CMA Prep were undefeated this weekend to clinch the title and are headed to Nationals in April! 🦅 #CulverHockey#USAHockey
“The amount of points you score doesn’t determine whether you are playing good or bad. Your point total is never an indicator of how you play. It’s how hard you work and how good of a teammate you are,” Caitlin Clark
A true difference maker on and off the court.
@MediacomCable awesome job. This is NOT the video quality I pay for.
Tried to call the customer service number and it also said it was out of service. Unacceptable to not be able to watch the biggest TV event of the year.
ICYMI: @TheHockeyNews' Stan Fischler sat down with Culver Academy's head coach to discuss coaching, leadership, and women's hockey. Here's the interview: https://t.co/obWHOk7LNU @StanFischler
I am extremely proud and honored to announce my commitment to play NCAA Division 1 college hockey and further my academic career at Quinnipiac University. I would like to thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches who have all helped me achieve my dream. #gobobcats

Geno Auriemma said, “With the absence of pressure, it’s hard to do great things.”
The best turn pressure into an opportunity.
Peak performances don’t come when you are relaxed.
They come when you feel the tension to perform better than normal.
The key is to not let the pressure overtake you, but to have a plan in place when you feel that pressure.
Handling pressure is a skill and a mindset.
Pressure is believing that anything outside you can impact how you feel.
This matters because your performance is 95% mental.
How To Perform Your Best Under Pressure:
1. Accept That Pressure is Real…But it’s Here to Help
Pressure is anxiety (fear) and tension (excitement). Tell yourself that's why you feel it. Accept it. Peak performances don’t come when people are relaxed, they come when people feel tension to perform better than normal.
2. Train Hard, Compete Easy
You can try too hard during game day, that is why you want to prepare and train your hardest during practice. When you practice your hardest, your natural instincts and creativity will take over during the game. Then you can just act and not think.
3. Expect That You Are Going to Feel Pressure
Prepare your mind, body, and thoughts. The difference between successful performers and others is that they push through pressure regardless because they have confidence in their approach and performance.
4. Change Your Self-Image
Your self-image is your habits and attitude. Your performance will never exceed your self-image of yourself, so work on that image!
• Change the voice inside your head
• Use affirmations to change that voice
• Visualize the self-image of what you want to see
5. Turn Problems Into Opportunities
You are either winning or learning. If you don't win then it's time to learn. It means your mind and body weren’t ready to win and you need to improve. What needs improvement?
• Your training?
• Your concentration?
• Your acceptance of pressure?
• Your self-image?
6. Concentrate On The Moment
Your mind can only concentrate on one thing at a time. Focus on the task at hand. Before that task, picture what you want. Take control of what you picture and visualize. If you picture something, you can’t have a negative thought at the same time.
““You can measure a man’s character by the choices he makes under pressure.”- Winston Churchill
