@TomHarperHale I think one aspect is that magical world building is simpler when there isn't more modern technology for magic to interact with. Magic systems are tricky enough without magic/tech intersection complications or figuring out how magic would change tech development timelines.

@TAMillennial Yeah...I'm one of those people.
Fully aware that the extra details are unnecessary, but somehow unable to make it through the story without them. Almost like they help me track my own place in the story as I'm telling it.
When writing, I can at least go back and edit them out 🤷‍♀️

There was a stretch of time in high school or college when I would make mac and cheese (from scratch, because that was apparently an important part of the process) and mix it into mashed potatoes (also from scratch) as the ultimate comfort food.

Usually the landing/takeoff photos are super blurry, but the bird-cam caught a couple at just the right moment today. I love the photos where you can see the wings in such detail.

@ywrite We have hawks come through now and then (and even an eagle or two), but they certainly haven't deterred the smaller birds.

It may be rainy out, but the birdfeeders are a happening place. Had bluebirds, goldfinches, house finches, sparrows, and a woodpecker all out there at once. With chickadees, tufted titmice, and a nuthatch stopping in just after.

@ywrite We had most of them in over the summer (along with some Orioles and catbirds), but the bluebirds got chased off by sparrows in the spring, and the goldfinches preferred the neighbors' sunflowers to the feeders. So I've enjoyed having them all back 😁

@ljswansonwrites We've had a pair of them at our feeders, and they make me happy.

I got an inverted finch feeder (only birds willing to eat upside down can get at the feed). The titmice spend so much time trying to figure it out, and I feel bad, but their confusion is quite amusing.

@ljswansonwrites We're pretty significantly above that line on most maps I've seen, but I guess we've had enough milder winters in the past decade or so that the maps are still catching up. 🤷‍♀️

@ljswansonwrites I haven't seen them here in the winter in other years (I thought we were too far north for them), but it's nice to have the extra color. Especially if the goldfinches I've seen stick around too.

I just hope the sparrows don't chase them off like they did in the spring 😣
