Lawmakers are pushing for a dedicated task force to investigate crypto thefts.
Maybe it's time more people started taking crypto security seriously.
Educating users before they become victims is just as important.
That's why I wrote The Crypto Security Survival Guide.
We teach people how to buy crypto, but rarely how to protect it or what to watch out for.
That's the gap I set out to address with The Crypto Security Survival Guide.

Most crypto investors spend hundreds of hours learning how to make money.
Almost none spend time learning how to keep it safe.
Over the past several weeks, I've been working on something designed to help close that gap.
More details soon.
My 52-year-old mother, who works as a hospital cleaner, sold her wedding ring without telling anyone.
I found out by accident.
I came home early from school and saw the empty jewelry box on her dresser.
"Where's your ring."
My mother froze.
"I took it off for cleaning."
"Show me."
She fell silent.
"Mom."
"I sold it."
"Why."
"Your father's hospital bills."
I sat down on the bed.
"How much was it worth."
"380,000 yen."
"And the bills."
"420,000."
"So you're still short."
My mother gave a small smile.
"I'll figure it out."
That night, I couldn't sleep.
The next morning, I went to the pawn shop before school.
"The gold ring my mother brought in yesterday."
"What about it."
"Is it still here."
The owner looked at me.
"It's here."
"Don't sell it."
"Why."
"I'm going to buy it back."
"You have 380,000 yen."
I had 12,000 yen.
"Not yet."
The owner laughed.
"Kid, this ring will be gone by next week."
"Then hold it for me for one week."
"Why should I."
There was a brief pause.
"Because my father gave it to her thirty years ago."
The owner fell silent.
"One week."
"One week."
I worked every shift the convenience store would give me.
I asked my uncle for a loan.
I sold my game console.
On the seventh day, I walked into the pawn shop with 380,000 yen.
"You actually came."
"I said I would."
The owner handed me the ring.
That night, I placed it on the kitchen table while my mother was washing dishes.
She turned around.
She didn't speak for a long time.
"How."
"It doesn't matter."
"It matters."
"It's already done."
My mother sat down at the table.
"You shouldn't have."
"You shouldn't have either."
She started crying.
"I was going to buy it back myself."
"With what."
"I was saving."
"How much do you have."
There was a pause.
"43,000."
We both fell silent.
Then my mother laughed through her tears.
"We're a stupid family."
"We are."
The mother who sold her ring for her husband had a son who bought it back for her.
The ring had moved three times in one week, and it was worth more every time.
