@CharmCityTable Yes, Hampden has a deeply racist past—and present. Also, here are some signs from my block in Hampden. Performative? Sure. Perhaps also a signal of folks’ willingness to educate themselves on how to be antiracist? Time will tell.
A BPD helicopter is continuously circling the neighborhood close to the Fraternal Order of Police in #Hampden, where protesters have gathered after marching down Morling Avenue. 1/
The announcement, played repeatedly is stating that they are in violation of [?] disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace, ordering protesters to immediately disperse or they will be subject to arrest. 2/ #Baltimore
@notrivia@LisaMcCray You are absolutely right about the history & present racism in Hampden. Also there are folks here in Hampden doing the daily work of self-reflection and anti-white supremacy action. We aspire to be transformed as individuals and as a community. Inshallah!
I know too many people who sacrifice and dedicate their lives to improving Baltimore to be paralyzed by challenges. But, we don't have to just "get through this." Let's get to a whole NEW place of racial equity, transparency and justice. It's time. Baltimore deserves it.
My reflection on today's public hearing on the Mayor's nominee for police commissioner. I want to thank the many people who showed up to City Hall on a Saturday to deliver testimony.
Citizens are asking for a different relationship with police, including greater transparency, yet the process to find the right leader to get us there has been the exact opposite. We can do better! #Baltimore
You know, stepping back, this is tragic. Citizens are being asked to give comment on a commissioner they weren't a part of choosing and haven't met; who the mayor hasnt tried to sell them on; while he is in Texas with an ailing child undergoing surgery
One hour into the BPD public hearing for #JoelFitzgerald there has been no citizen speaking in support for his candidacy. Public sentiment: he’s not the guy for #Baltimore.
@BaltimoreBrew@BaltimoreDPW Maybe six months ago I saw the same color liquid flowing into the Jones Falls from a stream by Woodberry as I crossed the bridge on Union Ave. Called 311 to report it.
