The gods are not pleased with America on this her 250th birthday.
A hell-hot heatwave all day of July 4th,
and now a Biblical rainstorm to round off (or ruin) the night.
No fireworks for this historic holiday.
Thus endeth an Empire, it seems...
SAD.
(as our Emperor would say)
Thank you to everyone working
in the cold, out in the field, 'round the clock
to keep us safe, warm, connected, illuminated & informed thru the storm.
With all the shit going on in America,
you have to remember when things go right.
We may stumble, yeah, but we don't fall...
“There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.”
Vladimir Lenin
I think we've witnessed what may be 1 of the biggest shifts in history this afternoon -- and it was sparked by a Vice-President.
Had JD not attended that Ukraine "peace" talk, the conversation between Zelenskyy & Trump would have gone totally differently.
Trump can be a hot-head, but I think he would have cooled the temperature of the discussion --
kept it 1 man to 1 man, head of state to head of state.
Negotiations are neither pretty nor easy...
but something about JD's presence -- the asymmetry? the tone? -- unsettled the balance.
Who knows what outcomes 5/10/50 years from now will have been shaped by 10 minutes of an ugly argument.
We can only pray for wise leadership.
Bloody f*n right.
I'll always have a soft spot for Wall Street – loved the companies & people I worked with / learned from –
pero Private Equity has NO business owning / running / even touching any hospitals, nursing homes, schools, newspapers... None.

@grace256mugisha@AnnahAshaba A warm hello to you from sunny New York : ) Hope you're both well. By chance, are you still working on the Lab Rat Project? Wanted to highlight it for a Scientific venture here in the States. Whatever the response, would be honored to hear from you: [email protected]
Cheers.
I rarely read fiction, or The @NewYorker (lo siento), but, man, I've been missing out.
This short story captures, so brilliantly, the whims of history & business far better than the 'serious' stuff I've been reading. https://t.co/dhzvoAbWPz

Super-surprising to see @AnandWrites mentioned today in the @FT's How To Spend It Magazine. Generous praise of his book from authoress @MinJinLee11. Enjoyed her interview: equal parts fun & profound.
Next week in @HTSI, a visit to @BernieSanders' Tuscan villa, haha : )
I grew up on Grunge & Alternative -- Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, NIRVANA -- but I happily made the switch, in high school to Hip Hop.
Rap from the 90s -- and ONLY the 90s -- was so damn good: gritty, deep, dope, philosophical, fun. It made you dance but it also made you think.
I hadn't thought about DMX in some time, but he, among others -- Nas, Jay Z, Mos Def, the LOX -- was the sound of high school, the sound of NYC, the sound of the streets.
I remember -- school uniform & all :) -- going up to 125th St in Harlem to buy epic bootlegs of DMX mixes.
I thank the gods for my happy upbringing. It was in part due to growing up in a superb family; in part due to living in a peaceful, prosperous US; in part due to coming of age listening to the vibrant, raw music of the 90s - with its angry but REAL rock, and its sad but REAL rap.
