Ways to view knee valgus collapse on the squat:
Pessimism: injury waiting to happen.
Optimism: untapped potential with improved mechanics.
Both are true but it’s HOW you communicate WHY you’re wanting an athlete to fix the problem that makes all the difference & sparks change
Coaches.... please, please, please have plans in place to gradually increase activity as your kids start coming back to play. Seeing way too many things in the office that could have been prevented with a little slower reintroduction and working on STRENGTH and conditioning.
A “corrective exercise” performed poorly is no longer helpful.
Example: had a patient with back pain when performing a bird dog. Looked at his technique & he was over extending his spine. Cuing to brace his core & limit spine movement instantly took pain away. Details matter.
Stop trying to STRETCH & ROLL out your tight hip flexors & think.
Maybe you’re “tight” because you’re over relying on those muscles for stability & moving poorly (not stabilizing through your core & dumping into an anterior pelvic tilt as you squat).
Screening is 🔑
