Very excited today; received an advance copy of my next book: A history of @LondonWaterloo station! The release has been delayed slightly; it was held up due to the recent blockage in the Suez Canal! The book should be available from around the 7th June 😉 https://t.co/gaWisiSrwT
We’ve submitted an objection to plans to demolish the Railway Bell in Lambeth. 📣📣📣
The proposal would see this locally listed building demolished to make way for new apartments, with no clear evidence that it couldn’t continue as a pub, or be adapted for a new use.
Places like this hold stories, memories, and a sense of belonging that can’t easily be replaced for their local communities.
We’re calling on Lambeth Council to refuse this application.

We see our home planet as a whole, lit up in spectacular blues and browns. A green aurora even lights up the atmosphere. That's us, together, watching as our astronauts make their journey to the Moon.
London's taxi drivers have a reputation like no other thanks in large part to 'the knowledge', their almost encyclopedic recall of every street and building of importance.
Back in 1974, Nationwide's James Hogg met some of those aspiring to become suitably knowledgeable.

The oldest meat & fish markets in London, which date back 850 years, face closure from 2028. Smithfield meat market & Billingsgate fish market are to close after the City of London Corporation recently voted to withdraw support. A huge blow to independent fresh food suppliers.
A man who ran a taxi repair garage in Hackney shot himself dead, after receiving an eviction notice from TfL following yet another rent increase and immediate payment of £36k arrears! Richard Enver was his name.
When politicians fail to understand that businesses (especially small businesses) are run by ordinary working people and a 300% hike in rents will kill off any business; we end up with an economy that tanks. From Downing Street to City Hall, it's the same anti-business lot we have in charge. Disgraceful. 😡

After TfL tripled Pritesh's rent and forced him out of his beloved newsagents, we starting looking into TfL's property company, Places for London. Pritesh isn't the only one.
All across London, we found independent businesses being forced out of premises they held for years.
Yesterday, we went down to Brixton tube station for the last ever day of Brixton News, one of the capital's last specialist news stands. TfL are raising the rent on the unit Pritesh Patel and his brother run from £40,000 a year to £125,000 a year, something they cannot afford.
