It’s because you paid a window tax, as you do on any wager that is a 300-1 winner or greater. Which is why your wager paid out $31,262.10 (or less depending on the state—minimum 24% federal withholding) rather than your ticketed amount.
Career losers should avoid odds of +30000 or greater, like the ones you played, because you will have to file a W-2G to get it back. That will be a pain for those people, and oftentimes impossible, because they have to prove they have losses, potentially itemized, that offset the winnings—in the same year.
So even if, using your ticket as an example, you lost $700,000 last year, and end up +$41,134.34 on the year this year, you aren’t getting that window tax back.
This is the information anyone who tries to sell any information that has anything to do with gambling should have and, because they’ve have a proven track record of success, should already know—you don’t have it, though. So, my guess is… 🐍🛢️
Not trying to rain on your parade, just a sad reality for people who throw money away unwittingly. Congrats on the winner, nonetheless. Nice work—glad you finally got one. Wish I had that play!
Excited to announce that I've acquired 'For The Blogy' after 6 years of fantastic content. Starting Jan 1, it will be rebranded as the ‘Tengwall Film Network’
