Some Nigerian police officers seem to have a problem with young people who own cars. Why should you take out your frustration and anger on young people who are simply trying to make a living?

Nobody forced you to become a police officer. If you’re frustrated with the job, you can leave and learn a trade, start a business, or pursue something else. But taking out your frustration on innocent citizens is unacceptable.

For those of us who move from checkpoint to checkpoint, I’ve had my fair share of encounters with these officers. Since the day I stood my ground, none of them has tried that nonsense with me again.

I have all my papers and vehicle documents complete and properly arranged. So why should anyone try to intimidate me for no justifiable reason?

As long as I have a legitimate source of income and all the necessary documents to drive my car, you have absolutely no right to harass or intimidate me.

Respect is a two-way street. Wearing a uniform doesn’t give you the right to abuse your authority, and being young or driving a car doesn’t make anyone a criminal.

I know my rights, and I won’t allow anyone to intimidate me simply because they have a uniform and a badge.
