America has Warren Buffett, but Japan's most famous investor is 71-year-old Kiritani, who has a portfolio of over 500 stocks totaling over 400 million yen. He does not own a car and rides around everywhere in his bicycle. He's also known for his love of shareholder perks. /1
Just a reminder how Saizeriya is hilariously uncorrelated once again on a tough down day…. Or the market is pricing in that more finance bros will be headed there shortly 😅
Part 2 of my deep dive is out now ✨
“Extraordinary Attorney Minami”is a new Japanese drama available on Netflix about an autistic lawyer. The series is a remake of a Korean drama.
As a self diagnosed fake autist (but with actual diagnosed autistic kids) I welcome this series but the “omg look they’re autistic!” genre of shows is starting to feel overdone
This is so that Hokkien businessmen who are doing a quick overnight affair with a random KTV girl can make sure that their fanny packs full of at least 5-10k SGD are not being robbed while they take a dump or shower. You're welcome for the explanation. Follow me for more deep cultural insights into Singaporean culture.
Started a position in Japan Post Holdings 6178.T
Japan Post Holdings seems like the cheapest way to get new exposure to mega banks / insurance. Stock has seen a run up but is still cheap with a conglomerate discount at about 1/2 book value. Will hold for long term
This article just sends me because I can’t get over the fact that the American lib lady who moved to the UK is literally the epitome of this meme, shocked at the classless behavior of her British coworkers and at the state of their poor infrastructure and healthcare.
Also it’s funny to read about an American moving to Germany and crying that they will never be fully accepted, as it’s a common complaint among many foreigners in Japan. Germany and Japan really make for perfect allies, after all
I read the whole article.
Lmao at the guy who moved to Poland to escape right wing politics, the American who complained about feeling like an outsider in Germany (“if you aren’t born there and look German, you’ll never be fully accepted!”) and “Annie the lib” that moved to the UK likely expecting a bunch of dreamy polite “British gentlemen” and instead got bulled in her own workplace.
Icing on the cake was all the lib expats morphing into pro assimilation right wingers on Reddit eating each other alive whenever a fellow lib says they hate their life abroad and want to go back to America
I went to the expo 6 times last year and rode the gay China EV bus. If you saw an autistic looking Elliot Rodger with a dad bod riding the bus with some screaming children in tow you just may have seen CTC in the flesh
Used to love playing the game in high school. Game was surprisingly realistic. Russia risks gradually getting knocked out by Germany if the Allies don’t open a 2nd front. Japan lacks the resources to match America in building ships and planes so best strategy is to preserve your forces and draw the U.S. out in a long frustrating conflict where you can win crucial set pieces
