💔 SHE WAS ONLY 23 YEARS OLD.

Her name was Brooke Jackman.

On September 11, 2001, Brooke was trapped on the 104th floor of the North Tower.

She called home. Wanting to talk to her mama just one more time.

But her mama didn't answer.

Brooke reached the answering machine instead.

“Mom, it's Brooke... I was hoping mommy would be home. I'm OK. I love you guys.”

I had never heard this recording before today, and it absolutely broke me.

The night before, this beautiful 23-year-old had told her mother there was more to life than making money. She wanted to leave finance, go back to school and become a social worker helping children.

She never got that chance.

Twenty-five years later, listening to her frightened young voice makes September 11 feel like yesterday.

2,977 lives. 2,977 individual stories. 2,977 families who never got their loved ones back.

Brooke was somebody's little girl.

And in those terrifying final moments, she just wanted her mama. 💔

How could ANYONE forget what happened that day?

Awesome Ceremony by the US Coast Guard and NYPD honoring our Fallen NYPD-ESU/Coast Guard Hero Vincent Danz who perished on 9/11 with a new CG Cutter named after him. While in the Towers on 9/11 Vinny called home leaving a message for his family asking for prayers as he knew it was a dire situation they were all in and might not make it home. He was right. BREAKING: President Trump announces that 9/11 hero Welles Crowther will posthumously receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Known as “The Man in the Red Bandana,” Crowther repeatedly ran back into the South Tower on 9/11 to help others escape, saving as many as 18 lives before losing his own.

Allison Crowther said her son’s legacy continues to endure nearly 25 years later: “Welles’ light still shines brightly.”

Happy Heavenly Birthday to Rockland County and 9/11 hero Welles Remy Crowther. He would have been 49 today.

On September 11, 2001, when the World Trade Center was attacked, Welles put others before himself and immediately jumped into action. He saved at least a dozen people that day.

His red bandana has become a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and the power of one person to make a difference.

On September 11, 2001, 35-year-old Brooklyn firefighter Gary Box ran toward the World Trade Center and was never seen again. His family was left with years of questions and, heartbreakingly, no remains to lay to rest.

That morning, Gary hadn’t spoken to his father. As days turned into weeks, the fact that there was no physical trace of him made things even harder. His name was listed among the fallen, but there was no photo, no final image nothing that showed his last moments.

Almost eight years later, in 2009, Gary’s sister Christine visited the 9/11 Tribute Center in Manhattan. When a staff member asked who she was looking for, she mentioned Gary. They showed her a photo labeled with his name but it wasn’t him. It was another firefighter, Brian Bilcher, a colleague who also lost his life that day.

That hit the family hard.

Determined to find a real photo of his son, Gary’s father started searching nonstop going through museum archives, scrolling through hundreds of public images, spending hours every night looking at photos from that day. One night, after searching for over five hours with no luck, he gave up and went to bed exhausted.

The next morning changed everything.

As he sat down for breakfast, his wife Helen called out to him from the living room. She’d found something. On the screen was a photo of a firefighter running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, passing abandoned cars, heading straight toward the burning towers.

This time, there was no mistake.

It was Gary.

One single image capturing him in that moment, doing exactly what he chose to do: running toward danger to help others. For his family, it was the piece they had been searching for all those years.

The flag that Rick Monday rescued 50 years ago today is headed to Cooperstown!

OTD in 1976, Monday, a Cubs outfielder and veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, grabbed an American flag from two protesters who had run onto the field at Dodger Stadium and attempted to burn it.

Monday, the longtime Dodgers broadcaster who played 19 years in the Major Leagues, was a two-time All-Star and a World Series champion, has often been asked about the moment.

“If that’s all you’re ever remembered for, that’s not a bad thing at all,” Monday told MLB Network in 2016.

Monday still owns the flag and it will be on loan to the Baseball Hall of Fame this summer as part of America’s 250th birthday celebration. In addition, Monday will be honored on July 25 during induction weekend.
