The watching does not make the pain disappear. It gives me a little time.
Perhaps I have asked too much of the watcher. I wanted it to tell me who I really was, to soothe the king, to release the worm, to make solitude feel full. I wanted an answer I could carry back into life without ever losing it.
For now, I have this: I can pay attention to what passes through me without following all of it.
I will try to remember that when the next jab comes. My nervous system will probably rise to meet it. The old reply will be ready.
I may let it wait.
I am curious to see what happens if I do.
Between romances are eras of solitude. The heart keeps beating without anyone in particular to beat for. We go about our lives, but some part of us remains watchful. A face. A voice. The possibility that someone might interrupt the long familiarity of being ourselves.
What happens when nothing arrives?
The room is quiet. Nothing requires you. You have the time you wanted, and now you have to inhabit it.
Sometimes I feel peaceful. Sometimes I reach for my phone before I have even noticed being alone.
I like watching people. I like watching shows, lectures, comedians, the sky, the stars. Even when I am doing nothing, I am watching something: a memory, an argument that has already ended, a future that has not happened.
But I have begun to wonder whether I like watching as much as I like the prospect of something appearing.
I heard a story about a king who dreamt he was a worm. When he woke, he could not tell whether he was a king who had dreamed of being a worm or a worm now dreaming of being a king. The dream had felt so real that waking did not settle the question.
He asked his sage, “Which one am I?”
The sage thought and answered, “You are neither. You are the one seeing the two.”
Now that is fun to digest. It sounds like delicious literature perfected over millennia. For a moment, you feel yourself loosen from the person you have spent your life being. You are neither the king nor the worm. You are something else entirely.
Then you go back to work. Someone needs something. You get hungry. By the afternoon, you are offended by something someone said, and the revelation has done very little to improve your day.
I enjoyed the fable for a while. But a question stayed with me: What was the thing seeing the two?
Was it emptiness? It did not feel empty. Everything I had ever experienced had passed through it.
Was it nothing? How could it be nothing if it was seeing?
The only name I could find for it was the watcher.
I did not particularly like the word. Watch television. Watch the kids. Watch the clock. I had gone looking for the deepest part of myself and found something that sounded like a chore.
Yet there it was, present through everything. Through the romances and the solitude. Through the wanting and the brief relief of getting what I wanted. Whatever occupied my life, I was there to see it.
I wanted to call that pure awareness. But sitting alone, it often felt more like hunger without a particular appetite. I was looking in every direction, waiting to discover what I wanted.
A worm waits for its next meal. A king waits for news, applause, the arrival of someone he wants to see. I wait for a message. There are differences, of course, but in the waiting I recognize something.
Why are you looking, and what are you looking for?
That was where the fable became less comforting. Being the watcher sounded like freedom until I considered how much of my watching was waiting to be satisfied.
How do you feel when you are at your basest—the watcher? When there is no one to impress, nothing urgent to finish, no approaching pleasure to give the afternoon its shape?
I can sit with myself comfortably one day and find the same company unbearable the next. Perhaps that is why the sage’s answer pleased me so much. It offered somewhere to stand outside all that changing.
But I cannot quite stay there.
I look in the mirror and dislike what I see. Someone insults me, and my body answers before I have decided what I think. I can tell myself that I am neither the king nor the worm, but I still prefer being treated like a king.
There is something almost funny about that. I want freedom from the person I think I am, provided that person is admired.
Still, the fable has left me with something useful.
When I am hurt, I sometimes notice the hurt before it becomes the whole world. I feel the heat, hear the answer forming, imagine the satisfaction of delivering it. For a moment, I can see what I am about to do.
Cramming was considered bad study habits
I posit the opposite. In the age of Ai, the crammer is the winner. It's not about how good you are anymore, it's about how fast you are.
Let's go to everyone who studied 2 days a semester in college and law school per class.

Diósi–Penrose rates do not saturate in bulk. The sharp-cavity freeze at S=0.883 is a ζ=2–100 artifact. Smear the walls and 1−S grows ~0.02 per decade in ln ζ — not ∝ r_C/R. Exact uniform shield: S(ξ)=e^{−2 arsinh√ξ}.

I think #Agents need hands instead of #subagents
Like me, they should be holding six documents and have four pinned to a wall. We don't need subagents, we just need more hands.

Prompt Engineering
Was a thing of the past
I beg to differ
Prompt engineering is now EVERYTHING
I hope people never realize just how much you can do with AI on barely any token, when you merge with it and become symbiotic

Ai inbox in #gmail is insanely good. Thank you for letting me try it. It’s amazing
I can still imagine it getting even better. My inbox is where it all happens. Build it #google#GoogleAI#alphabet
If you could even incorporate #GrokBot elements that would be great
It's inverse #misoginy to not treat #ElonMusk like the embodiment of #IronMan. It's just not fair. This guy is literally like Iron Man and the media hates him. Flying cars...
