@Splougy@Samuel43750453 The earliest Christians in the first few Decades after Christ's Death but before the Writing of the New Testament Books and Epistles most certainly chose the eucharistic Cookie over the not yet existing Christian Scriptures.
@needGod_net Claiming that Eph 2:10 is brought up as if it CONTRADICTED Eph 2:8-9 is a complete Strawman. The Point is to see vv8-9 in Light of v10 and how they work together, so as to not fall into the Sin of "Hypergrace" or "Cheap Grace".
(Question is also what "(ye are) saved" means.)
@TeachingbridgeM@Emi_Okamura_ Jn 20:17 may imply:
A) Heb 9:24 = Ascension (long after Cross AND Grave), so Obtaining was not at the Moment he died.
B) Heb 9:24 "to appear for us in Godโs presence" = Christ presenting human Souls to God after having freed them from Sheol, on the 3rd Day, then his Resurrection.
@Emi_Okamura_@HeritageSparks I mean, if muh Boy Jean-Baptiste counts because "the Baptist", then Jesus counts because he went with his Bro John to baptize People -- John 3:22.
Now, as far as their religious Views are concerned... that might be a different Question.^^
@iam_shwa@LizzieMarbach John 6:54,56,58? (Often translated "whoever", though the Greek just says "the [one who]".) It seems universal to me, and it is addressed to a large Group of Disciples before many leave Jesus (only then he addresses the Twelve alone). "Disciples" in general are not just Priests.
@TheMiddleborne Receiving Bread alone was forbidden in Response to the Manichaeans (who rejected Wine, which made them easy to recognize). But they could only do so at first because it was already permissable before & after the Crisis.
Should it have become normalized? Not sure. Could be worse.
@TeachingbridgeM@Emi_Okamura_ Hm... Jn 20:17, Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene and said he had not yet ascended to the Father. Would that affect your Reading of Heb 9:12 & 9:24 ?
(btw. sorry for referring to his Bringing the Captives of Sheol to Heaven as a "first Ascent", that might sound confusing.)
@TeachingbridgeM@Emi_Okamura_ So to me it just seems that his Descent, his first Ascent (made evident to us in his Resurrection), and the "Obtaining" are in some Passages collapsed into one Act, one Event. Especially because we know so little about what Christ did in the Realm of the Dead, we can't say much.
@TeachingbridgeM@Emi_Okamura_ Ah yes, here, it IS about Christ entering Heaven (Hebrews 9:23-25). In that Case, Eph 4:8-10 applies, and the Descent preceded the Ascension.
(btw Terms like "Heaven" or even "Paradise" might also entail the lower and more evil Realms of the spiritual World, see Eph 6:12.)
@TeachingbridgeM@Emi_Okamura_ What is that Holy Place? What is that greater Tabernacle he entered through his own Bloodshed? Is it Heaven? (Could also be "not part of this creation".)
But in that Case, it would describe his Ascension -- and Eph 4:8-10 connects that to his Descent (I support that Reading).
@TeachingbridgeM@Emi_Okamura_ (I'm honestly asking because I am confused about what you envision as "Tabernacle" or "Holy Place" being "entered" by his own explicit Death. And the "Obtaining" keeps being used here in a strong but also an extremely abstract Sense.)
@AnimeAugsburg Luther said more than once that he would prefer to use the Gospel of James to heat his Oven with it. A Joke, sure, but an explicit Sign of outright Disrespect.
And basing the Straw Analogy on 1Co 3 literally means that James is useless for Salvation -- implying it's uninspired.
@Emi_Okamura_@askcliffe I see. I get when a Passage only speaks to the Problems of a specific Church and might not be quite as universally applicable...
... but the Door-Knocking Metaphor also appears in Luke 11:9-10 & Luke 12:36 (for both, God & People). So I'm sure it's universal, not church-specific.
The Immaculate Conception was defined in 1854. So critics assume it was invented in 1854.
But a Syrian deacon singing hymns under Persian siege in the 360s got there first.
A thread.
@Emi_Okamura_@askcliffe ... but... NONE of the Books or Epistles in the NT are written to Unbelievers... that's an odd Expectation to set.
Though the Epistle-Writers did address when there were some rebellious Sheep in the Churches, so I guess that kinda sorta comes close to writing to "Unbelievers".๐ค
@Emi_Okamura_ Counsel of Trent mentioned!๐
(... the YouTube Channel, I believe...)
Yes, the Counter-Reformation was a good Fruit of the Reformation. Then came the Jesuits...
(jk)
(just jk about the Jesuit-Dooming, Counter-Reformation being a good Fruit is not jk, that is genuine.)
