The word genocide is back on a loop. Macklemore is dropped from a tour, AOC calls the cancellation a cover-up of “the genocide in Gaza,” and Greta Thunberg says artists who stay silent in the face of “genocide” will not be forgotten.

Before the word does any more work it has not earned, read what it actually requires.

My take on the Canada-EU association is that it feels like lifestyle marketing for a European vacation. It’s not a solution to our problems but it is a type of romantic getaway.

@GinnyRothTO I’ve never identified with this grandiose geopolitical way of thinking. It feels way too far away from what I actually care about. It’s kind of like when a business gets too focused on ventures that are outside of the core business.

I always find that there’s a huge gap between what people say about Pierre and how he actually comes across in interviews. To my ear, he’s the only person in Canadian politics who is saying that we have a crisis in home ownership. Everyone else uses the god awful weasel word “housing affordability.”

@RichardDias_CFA Best case scenario this whole EU thing can be leveraged into building the social license to construct a west to east pipeline. Fundamentally, energy is a huge component of the EUs problems.

@ronmortgageguy Yeah, I very much enjoyed your podcasts with Scott Terrio. The key insight is that insolvency builds gradually. Turns out the renewal cliff was much more of a chronic illness than a heart attack for the housing market.

@ronmortgageguy If your goal is to join the EU the first thing you would do is to try to build social license in the applicant country. It’s like having a free sample of something just to then be offered the product at a cost.
