Ah the now weekly tweet to juice the markets before they open for the usual insider trading, while also triggering the 50 cent weekly gas price increase for every American. They don’t even hide the grift anymore. Also the added bonus of making us look stupid on the world stage.
@sama@TheAhmadOsman@sama your partner @gdb gave 25 million to support the party waging war, destroying democracy, and is also ignorant as fuck. How can you stay silent on that?
When you announce your roadmap for the year is about solving tech debt and improving the mountain of bugs and game experience… then layoff your QA, engineering, and best customer facing member in Griffin I have MAJOR concerns about what’s happening with SNAP.
There were layoffs today at Second Dinner, the team behind Marvel Snap. My absolute best wishes to those impacted, you never want to see people lose their livelihood. The gaming industry has been brutal lately, and I hate seeing it hit so close to home.
Already seeing a lot of questions about the future of the game, from players and creators alike, with a fair bit of doom and gloom too, understandably. I think it's reasonable to worry, but I also think the game has a lot more time. That said, I couldn't blame anyone for being careful with their investments of time and money. Second Dinner should address players and future commitment to the game.
I do not know how many people were laid off. Here are some things I do know.
I can confirm it was from multiple disciplines, at least Engineering, Community, and QA.
One affected person said that it was due to "cost cutting".
Second Dinner still lists open positions for Marvel Snap. They are currently hiring at least two people for the game.
All public estimates of Marvel Snap's player counts show significant downward trends.
Second Dinner is also working on another game that's described as "multi-platform" and features a "huge IP".
I often worry that Marvel Snap has become a much lower priority to the team than their next game, and this news only reinforces that concern.
This could be more indicative of wider industry trends than anything specific to Marvel Snap. Likely a mix of both.
I don't really have a takeaway here. Just wanted to inform and share my thoughts as best I could, since some people mysteriously look to me for guidance.
@GriffinWB@seconddinner@MARVELSNAP Very sorry to hear this news for you. I have faith you'll find an even better opportunity next, but that doesn't make the news and less sad. Thank you for everything you did for the community Griffin!
@sama@gabeeegoooh After reading this, I have to ask: If the democratic process is so important to you, why have you stayed silent and partnered with someone who spend 25 million to support the party dismantling it?
