AAUA ASUU STRIKE: NANS NATIONAL INTERVENES FOR A FINAL RESOLUTION

Today, for the second time, I spoke with the AAUA ASUU Chairman, in continuation of our discussion from last week.

So far, I have allowed the NANS JCC Chairman, Ondo State, to take the lead in the struggle, in conjunction with the AAUA SUG President. However, at this stage, NANS National will be getting directly involved to ensure that we work towards a final resolution and, most importantly, the safe and timely return of our students to the classroom.

During our discussion today, the Chairman briefed me on the outcome of their meeting with the Governor yesterday.

According to him, for the first time, the Governor was presented with the actual figures showing the total salary obligations of each affected institution. It is quite disappointing that after all these days of strike, those who ought to have properly communicated the realities and challenges facing these institutions to the government failed to do so.

How do we explain a situation where a state has a Commissioner for Education, Vice-Chancellors and other relevant officials, yet the government was not properly informed of the actual financial realities confronting our institutions?

The Chairman, however, reiterated their position that once their outstanding salaries are paid, they are ready to call off the strike, after which discussions and negotiations concerning their wages and other outstanding issues can continue.

He also informed me that the Governor has given his commitment and directed all the affected institutions to submit the necessary documents detailing their outstanding salary obligations.

Later today, I will be meeting with the AAUA SUG President and the NANS JCC Chairman, Ondo State, where we will collectively review the situation and decide on the next steps.

Following that meeting, I will also engage with the government to further press home the demands of ASUU and ensure that every necessary step is taken to bring this prolonged strike to an end and get our students back to class.

At this point, I appeal to all students to remain calm and resolute. Let us continue to follow up at every level. Where there are genuine commitments, we must hold all parties accountable to those commitments until we achieve the desired result.

I want to assure every student of AAUA that NANS National is fully invested in this struggle. And if, at any point, further protest becomes necessary to demand the immediate resolution of this prolonged strike, I will personally lead from the front.

Our students have stayed at home for too long. It is time to get them back to the classroom.

Firstly, I want to commend the leadership of the Students' Union and every AAUAITE who has, in one way or another, contributed to the various resolutions, engagements, and efforts aimed at resolving the issue of the ongoing strike.

I am pleased to bring to your notice that every step taken and every agitation made so far has continued to yield positive results. Without any reasonable doubt, I can assure the entire student populace that the strike will be called off soon, as the efforts and engagements put in place have been productive and encouraging.

During the late hours of yesterday, the Executive Governor invited the leadership of the staff unions from all affected institutions across the state for a meeting. Earlier this morning, I also had a brief discussion with the ASUU Chairman to get an update on the outcome of the meeting.

The ASUU Chairman commended the efforts of the Students' Union and revealed that the Governor stated during the meeting that he was not fully aware of the financial implications involved in implementing the FG–ASUU 2025 Agreement and settling all outstanding payments. However, the Governor has reportedly agreed to respond to their demands and make the necessary payments as soon as possible.

The ASUU Chairman also made it clear that ASUU has informed the government that the strike will not be suspended until the agreed payments have been made and confirmed.

Following this development, I have immediately communicated with NANS, other Students' Unions, and relevant student associations across Ondo State to deliberate on the next line of action. Discussions are still ongoing, as we are yet to reach a final and decisive conclusion.

Nevertheless, I want to assure every AAUAITE that we remain fully committed to representing your interests and agitating for our collective cause.

We will not back down.

We will continue to engage, agitate, and demand the necessary actions until our academic activities are fully restored and the strike is officially called off.

Our commitment remains unwavering because the interest and welfare of AAUA students will always come first.

EXPIRATION OF ULTIMATUM: AAUASU INITIATES THE THIRD SIEGE OF ALUTA

THE TIME FOR ACTION IS NOW

The Adekunle Ajasin University Students’ Union (AAUASU), in conjunction with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (Ondo Axis), hereby formally notifies the Ondo State Government, relevant authorities, and the general public that the 24-hour ultimatum issued by NANS JCC Ondo Axis and the 72-hour ultimatum issued by AAUASU expire today, September 7th, 2026.

These ultimatums were issued against the backdrop of the prolonged industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NAAT), and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), which has continued to disrupt academic activities and place the educational future of students in serious uncertainty.

The prolonged industrial action by these union bodies has subjected students to academic disruption, uncertainty, frustration, and an indefinite interruption of their educational pursuits. Students cannot continue to bear the consequences of a crisis over which they have no control.

We have waited.
We have appealed.
We have engaged.
We have exercised restraint.

But our education cannot continue to wait.

Following the expiration of the respective ultimatums and in the absence of a satisfactory resolution, AAUASU, in conjunction with NANS JCC Ondo Axis, hereby announces the commencement of the 3rd C of Aluta.

This action is a peaceful and lawful demonstration of our collective grievances. It is not a threat to the Ondo State Government, nor is it an attempt to undermine constituted authority. Rather, it is a resolute expression of the frustration and legitimate concerns of students whose academic progression and future continue to be affected by the prolonged industrial action involving ASUU, SSANU, NAAT, and NASU.

In furtherance of this peaceful struggle, the AAUASU Secretariat will temporarily relocate from the Main Gate of Adekunle Ajasin University to Alagbaka, Akure, where the Student Union Government shall continue its peaceful demonstration and engagement with relevant authorities until our concerns receive meaningful attention and concrete steps are taken toward resolving the crisis.

We shall mobilize peacefully, massively, and responsibly.

Our presence on the streets is not borne out of hatred for government or disrespect for constituted authority. It is borne out of our firm conviction that education is the foundation of our future and an indispensable investment in the future of Ondo State.

We therefore call upon His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Executive Governor of Ondo State, to urgently intervene and deploy the full weight of his office toward finding a lasting resolution to the prolonged industrial action involving ASUU, SSANU, NAAT, and NASU.

We equally call on all relevant stakeholders, including the affected union bodies and appropriate authorities, to urgently return to meaningful engagement and take decisive steps toward ending the disruption of academic activities.

We will remain peaceful.
We will remain responsible.
We will remain resolute.
And we will continue to make our voices heard.

This is not a threat.

This is Aluta.
This is our education.
This is our future.

Until our voices are heard and meaningful action is taken, we shall continue our peaceful demonstration and engagement, demanding justice, accountability, and an urgent end to the prolonged industrial action affecting our academic pursuits.
