People asking why the South Wales Premier League isn’t producing any Glamorgan players, it’s because Glamorgan fast track the young talent from Wales age group cricket straight to second XI because they know how bad the league is…
@RogerWAMorris Im not saying league players can’t enjoy the game while also having no aspiration of playing higher but if they are playing and not caring about their performance, let’s be honest, they are not enjoying cricket and they definitely aren’t making the league they’re in better.
@robinjescott Academies are not at the forefront of minds in Australia and that is why I believe Australia has more sustainable talent because players are taught to earn it and fight those mental battles. But yes with so many competing sports here in the Uk I can understand the trouble…
@robinjescott Having academies and silver spooning only works when the coaches and guidance is of elite standard. Which clearly it’s not in the UK because there is a NZ and Aussie head coach of both red and white ball sides of England
@simonhancock_uk Counties will see them as a tarnished product and won’t look into them at all. There are cases of people being released and picked back up but it’s rare and usually due to the lack of squad depth that particular county has
@simonhancock_uk I’m sure there are a few, I don’t look at leagues I haven’t been associated with. So can’t be sure, but a lot of these academy players who get signed and then released will give up from cricket because they think they won’t get looked at again after their releasing. Which is true
@simonhancock_uk The bigger issue is that coaches and counties are neglecting players going into their prime playing years and reaching their full potential. Nobody is looking at a 25+ yr old player playing league cricket that’s for sure
@glurcher Young players should earn the right by scoring runs on a Saturday to get their reward to play minor counties and then perform to get their opportunity to play 2nd XI. It’s what I had to do, but it seems if you’re a Glamorgan Academy player you don’t have to do that…
If you want to produce more young talent Glamorgan must liaise with the League to make it essential to have an overseas and allow players who live across the bridge to play in the Welsh league. The better the players, the better the competition, the best young players will thrive
Thanks to the Glam supporters for all their love and support for the last 5 years. Being mismanaged and sitting on the sideline consistently wasn’t cutting it for my goals and aspirations of playing at the highest level. Change of scenery was needed to push my cricket forward
A valiant effort from the twos but they come up just short on the day against a strong Derbyshire side and finish as runners-up in the Second Eleven T20 Competition
