The greatest gift for my birthday today was to receive this chart and pictures about the initiatives that our 36 Gazan staff and volunteers are implementing in seven counties in the Gaza Strip: using art and art therapy to bring some sanity to the thousands of children facing the horror of a genocide. While the volunteers themselves are displaced for a fourth and fifth time, they do not give up but keep nurturing hope and bringing healing while investing in a culture of life. Thank you, colleagues and friends in Gaza. You made my day. Thanks to our friends worldwide who thought of me today.
Ramadan Kareem to our beloved Muslims in Palestine and around the world. Ramadan without wars, starvation, siege, ethnic cleansing and apartheid
رمضان كريم للأحبة المسلمين في فلسطين وحول العالم. رمضان بدون حروب وتجويع وحصار وتطهير عرقي وفصل عنصري
“Death is better than this.”
Shocking images of starving, emaciated children from inside Gaza are laying bare the desperation inside the strip, as @nadaabashir reports.

Around 17,000 children in #Gaza are orphaned.
1 in 6 children under 2 yrs is acutely malnourished in the north.
Babies slowly perishing under the world’s gaze
Children dying from bombs, even more now dying from consequences of siege. These horrific deaths entirely preventable.
Israel latest military orders, includes closing certain streets in the West Bank for Palestinians from 5-9am, so that illegal Jewish settlers can drive to work without seeing Palestinians. The Israeli minister of National Security announced that the life of the Jewish settlers is more important than the freedom of movement for Palestinians. For us as a university, this means that teachers and students can’t reach their classes in the morning. In addition, every now and then the Israeli military closes the main checkpoint connecting the southern part of the West Bank with the north, causing traffic jams for hours. What can we call such orders and actions other than Apartheid.
“Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” In this season of lent, may we repent from indifference and apathy. May we turn away from racism, prejudice and bigotry."
This is Mary.
Tonight, I was her buddy at a Prom Night experience.
She taught me the words to N*Sync, the dance moves to the Macarena, and how much the church has lost in closing its hearts & doors to people with special needs.
The church is not healthy unless all have a seat.
I will be travelling to the UK in 2 weeks to speak at a vigil in London and in other venues. To our friends in London and the UK I hope to see you on Feb. 18th.
***Breaking***
Hundreds of Mennonites gathered today with @MennoniteAction in DC and about 150 were arrested while singing and praying as they participated in the rich tradition of nonviolent direct action — calling for a ceasefire in the Congress rotunda.
Watch the video - it’s so moving. It is powerful to see this particular witness, from a tradition of Christianity known for its historic commitment to nonviolence. Also, I think their posters are actually quilts - which is totally awesome, and totally Mennonite. And the song they are singing is one of my favorite songs of the church “The Canticle of Turning.” I’ll post the lyrics here, which speak of destroying our weapons and turning from war to peace.
Grateful for this holy, beautiful, prophetic witness today… and for the Jesus-centered faith of the Mennonite church.
We need more of this.
It was John Lewis who said - when we get arrested for the good trouble, we can smile in our mugshots because we know are on the right side of history.
Ceasefire now.
Let Gaza live.
