@ShannonSevigny I really like this. It reminds me of the concept of Mentalization which Peter Fonagy describes as the common active ingredient across diverse forms of therapy. I slightly altered the image. I hope you don't mind.
@David27221696 @awaisaftab Thank you. I guess I am a 'tedious debate about Descartes' kind of guy. Have always been interested in philosophy but more just out of curiosity. Perhaps Twitter is not the place for it, but no one else will talk to me about it. Maybe I should take the hint. HaHa.
@DrGipps@awaisaftab Not sure I follow again. You will have to help me out with the difference between "having" and "sub-standing"
By yellowness I mean the subjective experience I have when I look at a yellow object. This experience is part of my consciousness and different from the object itself
@DrGipps@awaisaftab I suppose I meant the experiences of "yellowness" and "loudness" - cf. Locke and Primary and secondary qualities. For me consciousness is a part of a person, like the hand. It is a substance as it has it's own properties. Unlike "weight" which is not a thing but only a property
@DrGipps@awaisaftab I'm not sure I understand the difference between a property and a substance? I always thought dualism just meant consciousness and matter were two different types of thing, mostly because you can't hit "love" with a hammer.
@shadowbox_nz @vkivlighan@psychgeist52@Lyons_Psych Maybe she needed family or a friend right then, rather than a paid stranger? Just a thought. Not suggesting therapy is not extremely valuable, just that it's not the same as being held by someone who knows and loves us. Maybe hard for a health service to fill that role?
@ralanshirley@DrNeenaJha@andyhersh@mancunianmedic@drmarkporter@DrSdeG Lol. TBF it's not the only form of assessment I undertake. Also that stat is for tactile vocal fremitus rather than vocal resonance. Even so, I accept that there is sometimes an element of “emperor’s new clothes” in medicine, but I think patients appreciate a thorough examination
Understanding the mechanisms that produce pain gives us the knowledge that something can be done. Knowing that something can be done may provide hope; and hope, along with faith and love, should not be underestimated in their role in human health.

@DrNeenaJha@andyhersh@mancunianmedic@drmarkporter@DrSdeG Yeah, I love it. Its all part of the theatre! Plus I occasionally convince myself I've heard something helpful, although I'm willing to accept this might be partly imagined to fit in with my own narrative. I never realised I was the only one!
