@longingfornickk We cannot allow men like Platner to gain this kind of traction again, and that means recognizing what they are when you see Reddit posts like that.
Character matters in people who want to serve.
I'll tell you what the context was. Platner was responding to a woman on reddit who was debunking the myth that women who are intoxicated are to blame for their own assaults. He was trolling a woman--quite angrily--about drug-facilitated sexual assault. Red flags abound.
@longingfornickk There is no progress under conditions where rape apologia is as accepted as it has been for this man. The people who platformed him are suspect from here on out.
There needs to be a reckoning that this misogyny was ignored and accepted. It is unacceptable.

Also, so we're clear:
If Racicot had called the police that night and reported her rape, the story would be that this stupid crazy bimbo had sex and regretted it and was accusing a poor innocent man of rape.
There's literally no correct way for a woman to respond to rape.
As of yesterday morning I had no strong feelings about Platner’s replacement. As of today I have one strong feeling, which is that we should not under any circumstances let Platner and the folks who got us into this mess bully us into letting them pick his replacement.
@JustJoshinNH People who are now telling us to stop “gloating” about being right? People who STILL hold that none of the prior red flags were relevant?
@_celia_bedelia_ I think it didn’t occur to him that it would matter. I think his arrogance and political ambition — and our culture of dismissing and ignoring women — told him that it wasn’t that bad and it was more important that he run because “he had a message that would resonate”
@JustJoshinNH “It isn’t about who had the better political instincts!” It sure as heck is because the people whose judgment failed should have every take scrutinized and some of them should never work in politics again
