Family Time and Parental Bonding Linked to Better Sleep in Preteens
Researchers analyzing nearly 5,000 children found that those with strong family bonds and high parental engagement were more likely to get sufficient sleep.
Habits like eating dinner together and talking about the next day were linked to longer sleep durations.
On the other hand, children immersed in technology-based interactions or living in homes with frequent conflict slept less.
The data revealed that social connection clusters with high parental engagement had the highest rates of sufficient sleep.
These findings suggest that simple family routines can significantly influence children's sleep health.
The study points to social connectedness as a promising focus for future sleep-related interventions.

“Sweet” Research Sheds Light on Glucose Metabolism in Neurons
Neurons in the brain directly metabolize glucose to function normally, contrary to previous beliefs that glial cells metabolized the sugar and indirectly fuel neurons. The findings could provide insights into the development of new therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, where the brain's uptake of glucose decreases in the early stages of the diseases.
