Let's be honest here. A lot of the frenzy about the pied-a-terre tax list is not on behalf of helpless little old ladies.
It's coming from people who have been defrauding NYC by pretending not to be residents for income tax purposes.
Now those people have to choose. Income tax or pied-a-terre? Do you live here or not?
Literally the discourse right now:
Homeowner: This is so unfair, I bought my $3 million home for $200k in 1980, and I've lived here all my life
Everyone: Okay, just submit your New York tax return and you're off the hook
Homeowner: But I didn't file my taxes in New York.
78 is uncomfortably warm inside IMO, but your air conditioner typically can’t make it cooler than 20 degrees below the outside temperature anyway. Today is going to be like 99 degrees!
And honestly with window units in old NYC buildings you probably aren’t even hitting that.
New York: it's hot out there, and the power grid is working overtime to keep us cool.
Set your AC to 78 degrees, turn off lights/electronics you're not using, and unplug what you can.
Our City is doing its part too: maintaining the 78 degrees rule in our buildings, dimming/turning off our lights during peak electricity demand, asking private partners to do the same, and powering down non-essential equipment.
A stable grid means the AC stays on, and lives are saved. Let's ease demand — and get through the heat — together.
@BecauseIMatter After I was diagnosed as autistic I actually found that my depression *improved* because, while I do have depression for the reasons you mention, much of what I had just attributed to “depression” was actually a combination of alexithymia and dysregulation!
man: i wish to publish
reviewer 2: your paper is no good
man: i'll do anything to improve
reviewer 2: it's simple. you must read the work of the great scientist Pagliarini
man: *bursts into tears* but i am Pagliarini

It’s D. Abortion is one of the safest outpatient procedures in the United States.
We are here in the month of Elul, a time of reflection, of personal and communal soul-accounting, and deeply misguided members of our community are spending their time harassing a Holocaust museum into deleting posts saying that we should oppose genocide.
God, have mercy on us.
@madisontayt_ Like don’t get me wrong, there’s race and class and culture mixed in there as well, and she’s definitely wary of “weird” food, but she has this idea about other things: oh those pants are beautiful — but not on me. Oh that vacation looks so fun — but not for me.
@madisontayt_ I wonder how much of this is about the idea of “having notions,” if you know what that is. I have 2 midwestern boomer parents, 1 very adventurous and 1 not (also autistic though) and with the latter it’s less “I’m afraid of that” and more “that isn’t for someone like me”
It’s so funny to see people who don’t live in NYC make negative comments about Zohran’s proposals with such authority. “Rent freezes don’t work!” Bro we’ve already had rent freezes on rent stabilized units before. Wtf are you talking about lol
Proud of these!
I know from my conversations with @ZohranKMamdani, and his public statements, that he wants to listen to the Hasidic community (where I was raised) and their needs, to talk and engage - like with every New Yorker.
Using Hasidic Yiddish is just one of the ways!
