President Barzani receives Ambassador of Canada to Iraq
President Masoud Barzani received Ambassador Christopher Boehm, Ambassador of Canada to Iraq in Salahaddin on Tuesday, 14 January 2025.
During the meeting, the Canadian Ambassador to Iraq said that his country attaches great importance to its relations with the Kurdistan Region and will continue to expand and promote these relations. The Canadian Ambassador to Iraq also congratulated President Barzani on the success of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections in October 2024, which were held in a peaceful atmosphere and with a large participation of the people and described it as an exemplary process.
President Barzani thanked the Canadian government for its assistance to the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces in the fight against ISIS and stressed the need to expand bilateral relations.
Relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Iraqi Government, the political and security situation in the region and Syria and threats of terrorism were other topics of the meeting.
Regarding the situation in Syria and the future of the Kurdish People in that country, President Barzani Referred to the history of the misery and deprivation that has befallen the Kurdish People in Syria and stressed the need for unity among the Kurdish parties in Syria in order to prevent the repetition of the tragedies and miseries against the Kurdish People.
