The sad reality is fake asylum claims have become a cheat code for economic migrants to get into 🇨🇦, addressing this is a moral and financial imperative, and should be supported by all who care about the refugee program.

This isn’t a call to end the refugee program, but a plea to restore its integrity.

I say this as the son of refugees and a product of that program. My parents spent 2 years in a refugee camp waiting their turn, honouring the process and the compassion of Canadians.

As Canadians, we are a generous people. Our history proves that. But generosity must be anchored in prudence. We can be a safe haven for the persecuted while remaining vigilant against those who would exploit our openness and compassion.

I was on the ground helping to process African asylum seekers a couple of summers ago. It was clear who were honest claimants, and those who were not.

One Ugandan claimant took significant coaxing before she revealed to me it’s because she’s a lesbian. Her response made sense as Uganda has among the world’s most anti-gay laws where homosexuality is not only criminalized, but punishable by death.

But there were others who would quickly respond with a smile and say, “I’m bisexual”. I heard that response multiple times as if it was a cheat code for economic migrants to skip the line and
gain admission to 🇨🇦. I don’t begrudge anyone wanting to come to Canada, but that’s not the purpose of the refugee program. And by abusing it, they are crowding out legitimate claimants whose
lives are truly at risk.

My team and I trusted at the time that @IRB_Canada would weed out those false claimants, but it’s clear our trust was misplaced (see @CDHoweInstitute report finding IRB approved ~80% of asylum claims and The Hon. @jkenney’s recent interview with @brianlilley re: IRB rubber stamping claims).

The lesson here is not that we should close our doors, but that we must guard them rigorously & responsibly.

If we fail to restore discipline and integrity to the refugee determination process, we risk more than fiscal strain or political controversy.

We risk undermining a proud national commitment that has defined 🇨🇦 for generations, and further disintegration of the once long-held immigration consensus.

Action, as being put forward by the Official Opposition, is not a rejection of compassion — it’s how we preserve it.

A drama teacher was elected 3 times.

We spent billions on international gender programs.

We refused to expand oil & gas to Europe & Asia

We couldn't control spending, so we raised taxes.

We enacted the War Times Measures Act, oops, I meant to say the rebranded name, the Emergencies Act, on innocent Canadians and used lawfare on them, despite it being ruled unlawful by the Courts.

Our Prime Minister then divided our country.

He thought it was a good idea to mass-import millions of foreigners from one part of the world.

Crime skyrocketed.

Healthcare crumbled.

Housing costs & inflation spiralled out of control. 

The brain drain continued, we lost some of the best. 

And then we decided to then elect the drama teacher's advisor for his last 5 years.
