The reported breakthrough between the United States and Iran is a reminder that dialogue remains humanity’s greatest strength.
Sri Lanka knows the cost of division and the value of reconciliation. Peace is not simply the absence of war it is the presence of hope, dignity, opportunity, and the confidence that our children will inherit a better future.
The people of the world deserve nothing less. May peace prevail.
@nimilamalee For sure this government will tell us more lies and use public funds to purchase votes, reduce utility bills in 2029 ,this is all corruption of electoral process
@oshanda77@jinath@sajithpremadasa Can you compare Sajith who is experienced, educated in economics/knowledge of economics and anyone with anyone else? Personal attacks such as what you make? Have you ever heard Sajith make personal attacks? He talks economic growth for all
@Zacchariahshums@NewsWireLK Many stories about regime/executive incompetence since 2024/2025 but to see this video is a scary eye opener in more ways than one and explains our predicament which is getting worse
@HRPasindu Yes little clarity in a subject area where the subject minister had no choice but to resign,We are paying for the low quality coal imports,% made
We need transparency now
People are not angry about paying taxes. People are angry about being treated unfairly.
This proposed 185A clause turns even administrative mistakes like delays in filing returns or registration into criminal offences. That means a small businessman struggling to survive can be treated the same way as someone deliberately hiding millions in taxes.
That is wrong.
Instead of fixing the tax system, modernising the IRD, and making compliance easier, the Government is taking the shortcut of criminalising ordinary people.
If they have the strength to pass laws this fast, then where are the real anti-corruption laws? Where is the action against financial fraud, money laundering, and those who stole public wealth?
Go after the corrupt. Punish real fraudsters hard. But do not weaponise the law against the common man.
We will never stay silent when laws go against fairness, proportionality, and the constitutional rights of the people.
From July 1, Sri Lanka widens the VAT net, raises rates, and tightens enforcement all at once.
SMEs dragged in. Financial services taxed higher. Digital economy captured. And Compliance burden increased.
This isn’t reform. It’s extraction.
You cannot tax an economy into growth. If businesses can’t breathe, they won’t survive or thrive.
And if they don’t survive what exactly will be left to tax?
@rangaba All Maldivians living here used their USD into our economy from education, health ,rent and living. Most of them now go to other regional countries so we should attract them back and their $ which helps Sri Lankan economy
