Je lui ai rappelé que le Québec doit être pleinement associé aux négociations à venir. Le gouvernement fédéral doit faire preuve de transparence en présentant un plan de négociation clair aux provinces, défendre sans compromis nos intérêts, notamment en matière de gestion de l’offre et de spécificité culturelle, et être prêt à soutenir rapidement les entreprises et les travailleurs qui pourraient subir les conséquences de cette guerre commerciale.

Le Québec a des intérêts qui lui sont propres. Dans le contexte de la guerre tarifaire, il est essentiel de les défendre.

Tomorrow, the Gordie Howe bridge will have its Canada only ribbon cutting ceremony, where organizers have asked people coming to wear red and white to show Canadian pride.

Infrastructure Minister Gregor Robertson will represent Ottawa and Premier Doug Ford will be here for Ontario but no Americans will be in attendance. US Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra previously told me he was planning on coming along with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, before they were uninvited after the 50% tariff threats.

One thing I’ll be watching for is who else shows up, with multiple Canada-US stakeholders I talked with today saying they weren’t coming, despite being invited #cdnpoli

This is really dumb.

Canada is our closest ally and the top buyer of American exports on Earth. These tariffs hit about $20 billion in goods and apply even to products protected under the USMCA trade deal Trump himself signed and bragged about.

You cannot negotiate a trade agreement, sign it, celebrate it, then blow it up and expect anyone to trust the next deal.

And who actually pays? American importers and American families.

Tariffs are a tax on us.

Ontario’s premier is already calling for dollar-for-dollar retaliation, which means our farmers and exporters get hammered next.

We’ve seen this movie before. Canada retaliates, US alcohol sales there already dropped 81%, and everyone loses. Picking a trade war with your friendliest neighbor over hockey sticks and milk is economic self-sabotage dressed up as toughness while working families foot the bill.
