Artificial intelligences do not undergo experiences, do not possess a body, do not feel joy or pain, do not mature through relationships, and do not know from within what love, work, friendship or responsibility mean. Nor do they have a moral conscience, since they do not judge good and evil, grasp the ultimate meaning of situations, or bear responsibility for consequences. They may imitate or even simulate, but they do not understand what they produce, for they lack the affective, relational, and spiritual perspective through which human beings grow in wisdom. #MagnificaHumanitas
Only one chance in this lifetime…
Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him.
I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.
@DavidShafer I once visited the former home of Dean Martin’s grandparents, which is in a beautiful, quaint town in Tuscany where very affluent Americans now try to retire.
We have done this for years. It’s hard to know how much worse it would be without these things, but they don’t resolve the issue for us. Wet wraps have a big impact and, despite the suggestion above, when it gets really bad after several days or weeks of trying everything else, steroids can be a life saver.
@thedarkhorsepod@roddreher It's so painful reading Rod's piece and listening to this and all the other commentaries about the issue. I applaud the efforts, but it's all so out of touch.
Vice President Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, in Jerusalem this week.
Following my cousin’s religious vows in Naples I’ve been spending a few days in Sicily. This is the Church of the Holy Spirit in Palermo.
Back in the 1200s a French dynasty ruled Sicily with an iron fist. Then one day outside this church before vespers, a French soldier groped a Sicilian woman, whose enraged husband killed him on the spot.
When the other French soldiers tried to retaliate, the crowd swarmed them and killed them all. This in turn sparked a general uprising in which nearly all the French in Sicily were killed and the rest expelled.
Having invading foreign rapists in your country used to be a fixable problem for Europeans.
Today we celebrate the legacy of American hero Christopher Columbus. May his courage and intrepid spirit spur Americans to reach for new frontiers and to bring glory to God and country.
@charlesmurray A few years ago, I used to listen to all of Jonah’s podcasts and read every single thing he wrote. Now I struggle to even read his tweets. There has been a break in both directions.
This afternoon, 27 new recruits of the Pontifical Swiss Guard swore allegiance to the Roman Pontiff, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV. The ceremony, which usually takes place on May 6th, the date in 1527, when 147 Swiss Guards died defending Clement VII during the Sack of Rome, was delayed because of the death of Pope Francis and the Conclave.
