Venezuela’s Ministry of Communication and Information has now confirmed that gunfire heard earlier tonight near the Miraflores Presidential Palace Complex in Caracas, was the results of warning shots being fired by police at “unidentified drones” flying over the palace without permission from the Ministry of Defense. “We want to clarify that what happened in downtown Caracas was because some drones flew over without permission and the police fired dissuasive shots. No confrontation took place. The whole country is in total tranquility,” said a Spokesman for the Information Ministry.
9/ The #EU can still take this chace to try to be relevant in their area of influence. If they are slow (as it is usually the case), we will definitely live in a World ruled by the US, China and partially by Russia.
End of thread
1/ Very glad to see Maduro gone — and I genuinely hope it brings real, positive change for Venezuela and its people.
But let’s be honest: this was a clear breach of international law.
8/ , but I honestly believe this is not enough.
It’s time for European leaders to speak up and show to the US that they are willing to be address their concerns about the region before any escalation happens in the Arctic.
7/ That’s why Denmark & the EU should urgently open direct security talks with the U.S.
Not just as NATO partners, but to clearly define sovereignty, defence cooperation, and legal boundaries.
Denmark has already increased Arctic defence spending amid rising pressure and tensions
6/ If a precedent of military intervention without broad international backing stands,
then an open or indirect U.S. occupation of Greenland’s infrastructure isn’t as far-fetched as many assume.
Once foreign troops have operational control of key sites, legal debates become moot
5/ Climate change is opening new Arctic sea routes and access to resources, making Greenland even more geopolitically significant. Trump’s administration officials already made it clear they are looking to control this territory to counter Russia and China.
4/ It is home to Pituffik Space Base (formerly Thule Air Base),
— a key U.S. military installation for early missile warning, space surveillance, and satellite tracking.
3/ I’m not a Trump supporter, but one thing has been very clear:
Full control of Greenland is considered vital to U.S. national security.
This has been said by Trump and several people from his administration in many occasions.
2/ If this kind of action is normalized, then #Denmark and the #EU should be deeply worried about Greenland.
Greenland is:
the largest island on Earth (~2.16M km²),
~80% covered by ice,
with only ~56,000 inhabitants — mostly coastal communities.
