Robinhood claims they give 3% cash back, but that's only if you redeem to cash back. If you get statement credit (which is the only option to auto-redeem your points), you are only getting 2.1% cash back.

Robinhood is doing what they can to make the card economics work in their favor. They make it easier to get you to redeem in any other way that improves the unit economics for themselves and not you. The mystery boxes are worth less than the 3% cash back on average, just like any lottery item. The statement credit only gives you 0.7 cents per point redeemed instead of 1 cent per point redeemed (see the fine print on the second screenshot).

There is a reason they put the boxes and statement credit above the cash back option in the rewards tab in the app. They are pushing as many people that way as much as possible because it's better for them, but not for you.

Skip the auto-redeem, mystery boxes and statement credit. If you want your 3% cash back, the only way to get it is manually redeeming it through the "Cash Back" option.

They are gamifying the rewards and UI to push you to choose the option that is best for them, not you. That's their prerogative and as an investor, I understand the move. But as a user I want my full cash back and so should you.
