@myvmission The stress of trying to get in and buy these medals, seeing some of the comments about people paying, getting charged, and not getting the medal entry code, and the fact that @myvmission doesn't want to comment on the issues makes these medals not really worth $50 π€·π½ββοΈ
@myvmission Just like everyone else, mine just keeps circling. Also, kinda sad you guys up the price on this one to $50 instead $30. Kinda disappointing.

So why was Sir Francis Drake considered a pirate?? Well, he was only considered a pirate in Spain because he attacked Spanish ships carrying treasures and raided Spanish ports. He also helped defeat the Spanish armada between 1587 and 1588.

That concludes our first ever pirate spotlight for Captain Kidd!! To send him off, here's a little song we'll sing together. Farewell Captain Kidd!!

Captain Kidd's rigged trial started on May 8, 1701 and a guilty verdict was reached the very next day. Not only was he guilty of piracy but was also guilty of murdering one of his crew members. He was hanged on May 23rd but it took two tries, as the first rope broke.
Before Captain Kidd arrived in Boston and was arrested, he made a stop on Gardiners Island to bury his treasure, thinking he'd be coming back for it later. To keep people from finding his treasure, he took a detour to Long Island, Gull Island, Block Island, and Plum Island.
While Captain Kidd was out pirating, England had changed it's attitude towards pirates. It was now a criminal act to be a pirate. In 1699, Kidd negotiated a pardon and headed towards Boston, where he was arrested by Lord Richard Bellomont.

The Quedah Merchant became part of Captain Kidd's crew on January 30, 1698 and was renamed the Adventure Prize. It now rests at the bottom of the sea off the coast of Catalina Island in the Dominican Republic.
Captain Kidd was not very good at capturing pirates, making him a bad privateer. This made his crew angry and they forced him to turn pirate. One of his most well-know plunders was the Quedah Merchant, an Indian Ship carrying silk, sugar, iron, and much more.

Some of Captain Kidd's ships names were "Antigua", "Blessed William", "Adventure Galley" (pictured), and "Adventure Prize". When captaining the Adventure Galley, he had a crew of 150 and an arsenal of 32 cannons.

Supposedly no portraits were ever painted of Captain Kidd's wife, Sarah, but this portrait by Carol Kent suggests what she might have looked like.

Captain Kidd married a wealthy widow named Sarah Bradley Cox Oort on May 16, 1691 when he was 34 and she was only 21. They had one daughter together named Ann Elizabeth.
