It used to be fun because you're not on the receiving end.
And no, it's not until 2023, it dates back to the 50s, but let me not bore you with old news.
When the military government under Ibrahim Babangida annulled the June 12, 1993, presidential election, which MKO Abiola had clearly won and was being declared the winner by an Igbo man who was the then electoral chairman, riot erupted and Igbo businesses, shops, and properties became prime targets for looting and destruction. Go and read about Ọsọ Abiola.
Before the 2015 elections, the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, the highest traditional Yoruba monarch in Lagos, summoned Igbo leaders and openly threatened them on video.
During the 2019 elections, Igbo dominated areas in Yoruba land were specifically targeted by local thugs. Igbo voters were actively profiled, beaten, and told to go home if they weren't voting for the ruling party.
Then there is Adeyinka Grandson, whose anti Igbo rhetoric was so violently extreme that a UK court literally sentenced him to a 4 and 1/2 years in prison in April 2022 for inciting racial hatred and encouraging terrorism.
And you're saying 2023?
Actually they do and you know it.
Right now, Yoruba people are referring to a mixed half-Yoruba half-Igbo person as 'tainted blood,' a disrespect they don't dish out for other tribal mixes.
Also, when a Yoruba person actually travel to the South East, they’re always shocked by how welcoming Igbos are.
Why? Because they were conditioned to expect hostility from day one.
This is just common sense.
I sent a worker to get padlocks for me. I gave him 10,000 Naira.
Few minutes later he returned back with the padlock and brought back 1000 Naira As my change.
I collected the change and collected the padlock.
Today I went to buy something and I decided to price the same padlock.
Guess how much?
I was told 7000 Naira!
So this man pocketed 2000 Naira and gave me back 1000 Naira.
Why he didn’t take all the 3k is what I don’t understand.
If you speak about religion near a Naija Christian their best response is usually " How u go de speak against God wey De wake you up everyday". As if no be him still de wake all the Bandits, terrorists,Tinubu etc up everyday to cause more harm on people.
If you’ve ever lived in a Nigerian village or rural area, you KNOW frying Akara is SERIOUS BUSINESS! 🔥
Back in 1994, one of my secondary school mates’ mum was frying Akara… and the woman already had more than 3 houses from it! 🏠🏠🏠
Today, plenty sisters on this app are killing it with Kulikuli — some are even exporting to Canada 🇨🇦 and beyond! No be small thing.
So tell me… why the hullabaloo over what the First Lady said?
She spoke FACTS!
Akara, roasted corn, Kulikuli — these things don’t need millions to start. People have built empires, trained children, built houses, and lived well from them for decades.
Instead of twisting her words mischievously and taking one part out of context, why not celebrate the message of hope, self-reliance, and small beginnings?
No business is too small if you do it with wisdom, consistency, and prayer. Many big men and women today started with “ordinary” things.
Rural hustlers, village champions, and street entrepreneurs — una dey try! 💪
