@shagbark_hick I think it’s just that the base number is quite low out west. You have a fair amount of people who already live in the upper part of the NE, so you have an outflow that is greater than any inflow.

@Empty_America My comment was in response to the point about the right to “un-supervised homeschooling,” not about public schools. What if there was absolutely no minimum standard for homeschooling? What if you just taught your kids to weave baskets for 12 years? That’s ok?

@Empty_America A big difference is that schooling is not just about learning math. It’s part of a process to prepare children to participate in society. It makes sense as a society to guarantee that some basis level is attained if one chooses to opt out of the traditional options.
