@mrhowardedu A8: I think if everyone could remeber "Q-TIP" it would help the reaction of staff to the behavior. "Quit taking it personally" is something critical. Also, just love kids! They want to be loved and respected! I believe if we do this, management comes naturally! #rhmswinchat
@mrhowardedu A7: As an IS, my classroom is reflective of the students' needs and changes each year. I add lighting, seating, and break areas depending on their needs. #rhmswinchat
@mrhowardedu A6: I would like to break the habit of carrying others' negativity. It impacts me both physically and mentally. The habit I am proud of is consistency. My students know I am always going to be there for them. #rhmswinchat
@mrhowardedu A5: I think this is second nature to IS teachers. We love a good checklist! Fidelity Checklists will be utilized in my room. One thing I have students do is also keep a fidelity checklist so that they are tracking their own goals! #rhmswinchat
@mrhowardedu A4: (cont) Allowing students to share with me discretely has improved my reactions to specific behaviors. I always conference with students after behaviors. I ask them to explain the why. I also use "Q-TIP" which stands for quit taking it personally. They need support#rhmswinchat
@mrhowardedu A4: I post a google slide daily. At the bottom of the slide there is a set of 10 faces and the students can check the one that best associates with their day. The question, "Is there anything you would like to share with me about today?" is the last sentence. #rhmswinchat
@mrhowardedu A3: The basics for me are making sure my students know I will show up each day for them and that they can trust me. Those are my basics for both myself and the students. Rapport develops from trust and consistency! #rhmswinchat
@mrhowardedu A2: Develop relationships early, prior to there ever being a difficult situation. The groundwork of trust must be established for positive relationships to flourish. #rhmswinchat
@mrhowardedu A1: Relatability! We are there to work with families toward a common goal and the service mindset reminds us that we shouldn't take it personally. Perspective is everything!
@mrhowardedu Q3: Students know how you feel about them and if you genuinely care. If you do not have a relationship with kids, acting as a the "authoritarian" is not going to work. All behaviors have a desired outcome. When students feel heard, change can happen. Critical component!
@mrhowardedu Q2: I intentionally give each student something to succeed in before we work on their independent goals, which are always challenging for them.
@mrhowardedu Q1: The biggest outside influences of our students today are Snap Chat and TikTok, without question. They are constantly connected and have no downtime. They live in a constant state of comparing themselves to others.
@mrhowardedu A1: I not longer use exit tickets that are visible to other students. Post it’s and desk cards can be seen by everyone and can cause stress and anxiety.
@mrhowardedu I have a daily check-in. The last question is, “is there anything you would like to share with me about home, school, or life.” I’m always shocked at how truthful the students are with that list question.
@mrhowardedu A2: I always try to chat with teachers about my kids who have had a rough day and identify root cause. I wish our TBT had a designated time for this discussion.
@mrhowardedu A3: Conversation is KEY! Talking with them and showing you care to listen opens that door of trust! Being that person for them, offering praise and excitement and talking through their troubles allows me to make connections! #RHMSWINCHAT
