In a coordinated effort to tighten border security and curb the influx of illegal activities, a multi-disciplinary joint borderline operation, dubbed #OperationShanela II, yielded positive results today on the R726 near Zastron.
During the roadblock, members intercepted a suspicious orange coloured VW vehicle with three occupants, two males and one female. Officers requested permission to search the vehicle, which led to a startling discovery. Upon searching the interior, members found a brown school bag containing a pair of shoes.
Hidden inside one of the shoes was a brown and silver revolver firearm, fully loaded with five rounds of live ammunition. A further search of the vehicle also revealed a large sum of cash hidden inside a brown jacket.
The suspects could not produce a valid license for the firearm. Consequently, the 31-year-old driver (male) and the 23-year-old female passenger were immediately arrested. They face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as money laundering. #GunsOffTheStreets ML

#sapsHAWKS [DPCI SEIZES COCAINE WORTH APPROXIMATELY R36 MILLION AT DURBAN HARBOUR]
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) seized approximately 90 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of R36 million at the Durban Harbour on 6 June 2026.
Members of the SANEB Section attached to Durban SOCI were alerted by a Customs official to suspected cocaine concealed within an excavator that had arrived at the Q and R Car Terminal aboard the vessel Neptune Ace Tokyo from Santos, Brazil.
Upon arrival, the scene was handed over to DPCI members by Customs officials. A thorough inspection of the excavator revealed suspicious packages concealed within a panel leading to the engine compartment. Further examination resulted in the seizure of 47 blocks containing a powdered substance suspected to be cocaine.
While the first scene was being processed, Customs officials reported the discovery of a second concealment on another excavator that had already been offloaded from the vessel. A subsequent inspection led to the seizure of an additional 43 blocks of suspected cocaine.
No arrests have been made at this stage, and the matter remains under investigation. #DrugsOffTheStreets ML

The operation involved SAPS Crime Intelligence Head Office MDOC, SAPS Gauteng TRT, Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, SAPS DPC Tracking Team, CAP Specialised Operations and Tracker Connect.
Acting on intelligence, officers were informed of a syndicate allegedly responsible for a series of truck and delivery van hijackings across Gauteng and neighbouring provinces. The suspects were reportedly using a BMW 1 Series and a Jetour Dashing SUV to carry out their criminal activities.
