Today we’re launching Parallax, the AI energy company with a $117m fundraise led by Founders Fund, Eclipse, Lux, Diffusion, Greylock and General Catalyst. (1/5)
We at @DiffusionVC are proud to back Parallax in its $117 million round.
Power will soon be the bottleneck to the progress of AI. You can stand up 100,000 GPUs in months. The gas turbines to run them take years.
The reason is a design choice made decades ago. Gas turbines were built for utilities and jets, where fuel is the dominant cost over a 30-year life. So the entire industry optimized for efficiency: exotic alloys, extreme temperatures, a core with more than 2,000 parts, and a specialty supply chain that can only build so many per year.
Parallax designs turbines optimized for throughput. Smaller units (about 10 megawatts), a 3-D printed core that collapses 2,000 parts into a handful, lower combustion temperatures so it can use common materials and the aerospace supply chain, and a footprint that fits in a shipping container.
Parallax is one of Diffusion's core investments, alongside Eclipse, Lux, Founders Fund, Greylock and General Catalyst. First prototype this year, customer deliveries in 2028.
Also wanted to shout out @Casspi18 from Swish and @tcitrin from Definition. They were some of the earliest believers and have been some of the most founder friendly folks to work with!

We’re building the first turbine designed from scratch specifically for AI compute. We’re using materials with a global supply five orders of magnitude higher than what's in current turbine blades and have decreased part count in the core by three orders. (4/5)
